Hi @Roger,

We have some information about managed switches in our Networking Guide. We find that they can require some advanced setup, and we have some recommendations there about things to try. Itā€™s hard to say just yet if that could be the issue, but weā€™ve seen them cause some issues several times and it is something to keep in mind as we troubleshoot.

Moving forward ā€” Can you try playing to System Output of your iPad? Do the playback stoppages occur there too?

Thanks
Although a ā€˜managedā€™ switch, this is a ā€˜smartā€™ switch that can behave as unmanaged. It did so effectively for best part of year with Roon running and this has evolved with altering its config so not sure it is the issue.

The ipad audio ran successfully last night for over 5 hours but then stop on its own.

Thanks for the update, @Roger.

Just to confirm, have you tested with local content and TIDAL or Qobuz? Do they both behave the same?

I think the next step here is to enable some diagnostics on your account so our technical staff can get some more insight into whatā€™s going on here.

However, before I enable this feature, Iā€™d like to ask for your help ensuring we gather the right information.

First, can you please reproduce the issue once more and note the time at which the error occurs as well as the track that you were attempting to play. Then respond here with that time + track, and Iā€™ll make sure we review the diagnostics related to that timestamp.

Thank you
I was able to run for over 24 hours which is highly unusual in recent experience.
I did have a failure eventually 2min 13 seconds into You Always Hurt The One You Love

This occurred at almost exactly midnight GMT +/- 30 seconds

Hello @Roger,

I have enabled diagnostics on your account so our technical staff can get some more insight into whatā€™s going on here. The next time your Core is active a diagnostics report will automatically be generated and uploaded directly to our servers

Once thatā€™s been received, Iā€™ll be sure to update this thread and pass the diagnostics over to the team for further analysis.

Hello @Roger, do you have another device you can use as a core to test if this issue can be reproduced on another device?

do you have another device you can use as a core to test if this issue can be reproduced on another device?
No not readily. I would have to set up on an iMac I guess.
Shall we wait for the diagnostics?

I got another drop out at 21:05 gmt this evening
Playing Rosalita on 1975-11-24 Hammersmith Odeon London, UK
Then a couple more between 22:20 and22:45

The difference between Netgearā€™s ā€œsmartā€ and ā€œmanagedā€ switches relates to how you configure them and what notifications and statistics you can pull/push from them. But, they generally support the same set of features like IGMP snooping, 802.1q, priority queuing, VLANs, things like that. So, with the GS748T you have it would be good to login to the web interface and just double check the configuration matches the Roon KB article linked to earlier in the thread. Itā€™s also worth verifying that your switch is running the latest firmware.

Just thought Iā€™d throw that out there as Iā€™m a huge fan of the Netgear Smart switches but, in the case of Roon, the should be treated as ā€œmanagedā€.

Thank you I appreciate your thoughts.
I will delve into the switch management interface.
Iā€™m wishing I had gone for unmanaged switch now that youā€™ve explained this.
Letā€™s see what I can do.

So it is so much better with with flow control etc enabled and multicasting etc , ie All the things that happen to be in the advice on network configuration.
Just ran a full 24 hrs with no issue and then added a zone to play a new playlist and it fell over after about 70 minutes.
