For what it’s worth, my similar-era Mac Mini’s Fusion Drive just crashed for the last time, finishing off the spinning-disk hard drive that’s half of the fusion. However, the 100GB SSD that makes up the other half is perfect for an installation of Ubuntu Server 26.04. It runs like a champ, although I just got it done last night so testing is minimal. Try installing Ubuntu Linux on it if the components still work and you don’t have Mac-centric work to do on your core.
I bit the bullet and turned my 2012 Mac Mini into an Arch Linux server. It’s been running like a champ, and a little more responsive than it was on MacOS.
it’s a bit of a project, but you’ll be amazed how helpful LLMs are in guiding your journey.
