When ROON was upgraded from 1.0 to 2.0 (I think) I was dismayed to discover that my elderly iMac could no longer be used to control ROON. I recently upgraded my iMac and now have OS Ventura 13.4. Excitedly, I downloaded the ROON controller, which…worked perfectly. However, my desktop now continually shows an icon looking like an external disc drive labelled ‘Roon’. When I open it, it shows the ROON icon, a downward-pointing arrow, and the Applications folder. (I HAVE dragged the ROON icon into the Applications folder as suggested.) I have also placed a ROON icon on my dock as with my old setup. When I close my computer down and restart, the ROON icon has been replaced by a question mark. If I then go into ‘Applications’ and click on ROON it shows me a process as if it’s downloading ROON afresh from the interweb. How can I ensure that the ROON control app is permanently installed on my iMac such that I simply click on the ROON icon on my dock?
Hi BCBC, Thank you for taking an interest in my problem. I have followed your advice and it seems to have worked. However, I have done precisely this before and when I restart my Mac following a shutdown I have to download ROON afresh from the ROON website. Let’s see if the same thing happens again. I’ll let you know.
If the Roon application was copied to the Applications folder there is no need to download the Roon installer again. If however the Roon application was launched from the installer then the install .dmg should be in the Downloads folder in the Dock.
Best practice is to copy the Roon application from the install .dmg to the Applications folder, then make a shortcut to it by placing it in the Dock. This can be done when Roon is running by right-clicking on the application icon in the Dock area and choosing Keep in Dock from the pop-up menu.
