I have multiple old macs running Roon Bridge around the house, and as noted in another thread the current version of Roon will not install on older macs. Is there any chance to restore access to legacy versions? All my machines still currently work as endpoints (2008, 2011 & 2012 versions) but it will obsolete 3/4 of my house if new updates no longer recognize the older bridge software ceases to work.
@Jeff_Ward2, to use old Macs as Roon Bridge, you don’t need to install or update the Roon package, which also includes the Remote and, in the newest version, the server components. On Roon’s download section you will find a Mac Roon Bridge installer, which as of today is quite ‘legacy’, at version 1.8 Build 1125. You could try to install this instead on your old Macs.
If that fails, you could always wipe MacOS from these machines and install a Linux version, and install the Linux Roon Bridge. This of course, if you use these machines only as bridge, and don’t need the user interface of Roon on them, nor use these Macs for anything other than Roon…
Hi @Jeff_Ward2 ,
For your older Macs, you can try the Linux solution as @Andreas_Philipp1 suggested, or if you don’t mind tinkering a bit, you can try OpenCore Legacy Patcher. Please note that while I have personally used this without issue, this is outside the realm of Roon support and we would be unable to troubleshoot specifics if things go wrong.
