Esperanza Spalding
Double bass master, coming from classical jazz, having played with so many legends when she was just in her 20’s, developing her very own style which is not one dimensional, as can be heard in her last album.
I got caught by her prog rocky album where she prefers the electric fretless bass, singing along with it.
My favorite album for practising my very bad jazz drumming…

Just one mention of Ron Carter so far. Let’s add another one that Marc Copland and Pablo Held pointed me to.
Einbahnstraße and Doom is my goto on this record, Ron with Herbie and Billy.
Can’t believe no one has mentioned Renaud Garcia-Fons. To see as well as hear him play is utterly fascinating -sometimes referred to as the Paganini of double bass players.
Thank you for your recommendation - that album quite literally took my breath away…it is mesmerisingly beautiful.
