A classic.

With 2200 albums, it’s hard to decide on a favorite Ron Carter. The Sheffield Labs recording of Dave Grusin is exceptionally well recorded.

The Bottesini Concerto No. 2 was my white whale in high school, culminating in a solo performance with my high school orchestra senior year. It was tricky to track down recordings at the time, but Edgar Meyer has the recording in my mind.

Double bass playlist without Rick Stotijn? Impossible! I guess I will go for the fun variant tonight:

@Arlen Great album - but some strange noise all the time on the first 3 tracks.

All recordings were done in the open field, near waterfalls etc. Maybe that is this noise?

Just bought it - Bandcamp

Richard Davis has died at the age of 93. He played bass notably on Van Morrison’s Astral Weeks as well as other Morrison albums. He played on Bridge Springsteen’s Greetings from Asbury Park and Born to Run. He spanned jazz and classical as well, recording on an estimated 3,000 recordings (!).

Try out his The Bassist, a solo record with John Hicks on piano, for a flavor of his double bass.
