Live Radio Stops with No Feedback on Controller. Log might have the answer

Description Of Issue

This occurred during Live Radio playback from www.classicalfm.ca.

Occasionally playback stops for no apparent reason as evidenced on the controller. But the log excerpt below was captured just after one such event. I think things went south at 04:07:28.

Why doesn’t playback simply offer stuttering playback and let me decide when something’s going wrong?
Who gets to decide that >3s dropped out in the last 30s is too many dropouts?
And write “Killing stream” into the log with nary a peep on the controller?

Hi @Tim_Pointon,

Is this only happening for www.classicalfm.ca or are you seeing this with other stations as well?

@dylan, it happens on other stations as well. I’m not sure if the issue is my LAN or my ISP service. But nothing’s absolutely perfect all the time. What irritates me most is that there is no feedback on the controller … it’s just as though I pressed “Stop”, except I didn’t. For once I might be missing Microsoft’s “Abandon, Retry, Ignore”.

In full disclosure, I must point out that this Raspberry Pi is on a PowerLine to a Gb switch. I was experiencing the same issue on WiFi and thought Ethernet might solve it, albeit PowerLine … I cannot run a wire to the switch 2 floors down. When on WiFi I have a Linksys Velop mesh with an a access point on each of 3 floors.

Thanks for the details, @Tim_Pointon.

How often does this occur?

If possible, could you try playing to something besides the Pi as a test? It would be helpful to know if this is limited to that one endpoint or if it’s a general issue.
