Logitech Transporter Question

Was thinking of getting one of these. One of the larger ones with the 2 big displays with artist and song title and the VU meters. I want to use it with Roon. Will my tagging info carry over if I enable Squeezbox support? Will the displays show artist and song info? Is anyone using this unit that can verify? I see old threads, but no newer ones about this unit… Thanks!

This is at least a 12-year-old product that went out of production a number of years ago, which is probably why you can only find old threads on it. I had one many years ago but dumped it. Why not just get a real Roon endpoint?

I have a ‘real’ Roon endpoint. This is for a smaller room and these are cheap…

Yes, it will. They are fantastic, go for it. The display isn’t as configurable as a pure LMS setup, but will do what you’re asking and you can still have the VU meters on the right hand display.

Still more capable than 90% of the crap in a fancy case that’s sold for 10x as much.

cheap? As in how cheap. I have other Squeezebox endpoints that are great. Been looking for one of these for awhile.

They were selling off a lot of BNIB SE versions (without the centre knob) for under £500 a while ago. The full version comes up s/h regularly for around £450-500.

I have one of the originals still in use and I bought a backup (new SE version with no center knob) a year or so ago for I recall $450 or $500. I still love my Transporter!

p.s. The OP mentions the “larger” size. There is only one size Transporter. They came in black and silver, and the later SE version was missing the center knob, but otherwise the size and insides of these units are identical.

If you are still running one of these, I would love some pics of it running Roon with song titles and artists and all… It would be much appreciated…

Can’t give you a close-up one from right now because I’m having a little Roon sabbatical while they sort out 1.8, but if you zoom in on this old one you can see the Artist on the top row (Jesca Hoop) and track name (Unsaid) on the bottom row. VU meters on the right, but you can have it blank/visualizer and a couple of other options. In standby mode you can have the Roon logo on the left, or choose date/time as I do.

That’s awesome! Thanks! So, with Roon, it’s just a matter of hooking it up via ethernet, enabling Squeezebox Support in Roon settings and it will just appear in my Audio Devices? Is it really that simple?

Yes, that’s it. Just don’t have LMS running on the same IP address as Roon as that causes conflicts. It can be on the same subnet with no issues.

The one I am looking at is the Logitech Transporter SE. It looks similar to your just a different color. I do not have any LMS running on my network. This would be my first Logitech product. This is one of the few units with a big enough display to see what is playing across the room without looking at my phone or whatever. I like to hit shuffle and let it go. I will be running this into a Topping D90 and use it only as a bridge. Thanks again for your help!

The SE is just the same as the full-fat version internally but doesn’t have the haptic rotary navigation knob on the front. While it’s a nice thing, it’s by no means a must-have so I’d say go for it.

They are generally very reliable. There are a few reports of the vacuum displays going after a few years but I’ve owned mine for over 10 and never had a problem.

There are a number of NIB units on fleabay right now at $450

Keep in mind that the DAC in the Transporter is very, very good.

Since this will be your first LMS device, you need to be sure it will work to group with your other Roon endpoints. I don’t follow LMS but there was a time when you couldn’t mix LMS endpoints with regular Roon endpoints in a Group. I don’t know if that is still the case today or not.

He’s not using LMS.

Do you mean not being able to have a Squeezebox connected to both services at the same time? Well, of course not.

Squeezebox devices can only group with other Squeezebox devices.

As much as I love my Transporters, I wouldn’t buy one specifically to use with Roon.

Hmm, I dunno. Fantastic connectivity, useful displays, outstanding DAC specs for $450.
