I have seen the same - but i am really not prepared to do a database reset (as I have many albums that i have manually adjusted and lots of endpoints) - also when I tried this two months ago - the backup (that was succesfull) wouldnt restore (in fact all 3 of them wouldnt) so i dont want to lose the data - Roon need a option to do a database fix / refresh / optimise without such drastic measures!
Also it seems to be a problem in the last few weeks across many users so maybe Roon can look into that (maybe their code has got less forgiving somewhere down the line)
+1 on this post!!!
Exactly the same issue here, have to restart daily for the last month or so, never had this issue before
@Per_Atle_Eide It looks like they found a new RAM bug that is addressed in the new EA update. Letās
and hope this will fix the issue. I have been talking about RAM bug for a long time but very few people seem to listen. The response I get from some of the people on the forum is that I have a network problem. I have always found it very strange that an update on the Roon side should destroy my network when everything else is running smooth as silk.
I reset my Roon server in place by just renaming the RoonServer folder, restarting the service, letting it recreate that folder.
Immediately chose to restore a backup before even signing in to roon with the Ā« new Ā» server (I didnāt reinstall neither the OS or the application).
Interface load times are much quicker, everything feels snappier. I donāt have log references to measure improvement in playback delay.
I tried this and it wont restore my backup (even though the back is successful) so for me i think Roon need to do something with the database / rebuild / optimise / easier option i the next release -
Hi @alex_h
After running with the snappy ācleanā database for some days, I restored my backup into this ācleanā database a few days ago. Unfortunately, the 10+ second delays before playback of a track start to appear randomly again.
Best regards,
Gerard
Has that update been released or is it in the works? Hope it solves it, this is getting really annoying
Yeah this makes no sense at all, how can so many users with the same issues all have corrupted databases?
Itās in the process according to the forum
I am experiencing the same issue. Itās the worst it has been in a long time. Restarting Roon Server fixes the issue temporarily.
Roon Core Machine
Intel NUC10i7FNH running ROCK
Roon Version 2.62 (build 1641) production
Roon OS Version 1.0 (build 259) production
Intel® Core⢠i7-10710U Processor (12M Cache, up to 4.70 GHz)
16GB RAM
I just completed your steps, and restored my database. All is running well (fast) so far! Will update if it goes back to snail world.
Try the steps above from vadim, so far so good for me.
As mentioned earlier, delays start again after restoring my backup into the clean database. Maintenance is set to default 01:00 AM, outside playing time.
On March 26, I rebooted, and yesterday, March 27, delays started again during 3 hours of playing time. I decided to write a little program that parses the logfiles, and plot a graph of that listening period. I only extracted the tracks that can be identified with matching pairs of [LOADING @] and [PLAYING @]. Furthermore, I collected the āendmutationā lines, they appear to correlate.
Attached the plots.
i was having a look what is going on when delay kicks in:
CPU - single core utilized 100% by Roonserver
DISK - barely any activity
Network - barely any activity
Live tailing logs i can see after i hit play , logs pause for several seconds, then get bulk of them (Debug: [query] Sooloos.Broker.Music.LibraryAlbum:2 dirty) , followed by what seems normal flow of logs and playback finally starts.
here is a link to zip to relevant log and also performance stats (stats captured bit later for another slowdown occurrence) - i have hit Play button there around 13:09:29 and playback started 13:09:50)
..and some roon stats from logs:
I am disappointed to hear restoring a backup means the delays return - that implies thereās something corrupted in the data itself, or? I sure wish we could hear something from Roon on this matter - it clearly is an issue for a sizeable number of users.
For the record: my system is now performing so well after the complete reset (new database, did not restore a backup, logged into TIDAL and rescanned my local music) that I doubt I will go back or even try to, although I recognize that is not desirable for many (I hadnāt done much tagging, set favorites, etc.).
With a fresh database, itās like Roon is Roon again - itās just shame it takes something so drastic as starting over to make it that way.
All these things look so recognisable.
I run a Nuc with i3 and als face a lot of lag-problems the last weeks. Restarting helped for a few hours. Network is fine. Thought of hardware as a problem but couldnāt imagine. Ram could be buggy, Iām no expert.
after the first messages of rebuilding the database, I thought āoh noā. And after reading that a new database wasnāt the solution I think there is nothing I can do
Same hereā¦I will let support check the log files of the original poster since I have nothing new to report. And, it is NOT the fault of us silly usersā¦
I think there are too many complaints at the same time to be a user error
