Looking for cheap but good endopoint

Hi guys. My Pi4 seems to be broken so looking for a replacement. Any suggestions?

Would the Minix Neo G41V-4 Max (Intel Celeron N4100, 4 GB, 128 GB, SSD) work fine?

Another Pi that is not broken perhaps?

All you need to do is load RoonBridge on it and it should work as an endpoint.

Odroid (C4) with DietPi

would a 2GB ram one be enough?

Yes that would be fine. I assume that you use USB for connecting to a DAC?

There are a lot of mini PCs out there that come with everything you need. A mini PC with HQPlayer NAA is a recommended device. What you’ve suggested is perfect for the job.

Would the Radxa Rock PI 4 Model B also work?

It depends. There are ready made images for the Raspberry Pi and any X86 PC. You might be able to load the NAA software onto a Linux OS on the rock pi but you’ll need to figure that out for yourself unless Jussi can produce an image for you. Stick with stuff we know there is a relatively easy solution already there.

I wasn’t familiar with that board. Would the HDMI port be capable of passing audio?

Yes I think it would.

Allo Digital has a nice USBridge product that uses a Pi 4 compute module on a Allo motherboard that has the streamer guts on it. Allo is big on noise filtering and jitter reduction.

The normal output is USB-A USB Audio 2 protocol. You can add a DigiOne SPDIF/TOSlink output. The DigiOne Signature clean power is on the USBridge main board.

I have the DigiOne Signature as my main streamer here at Dismal Manor. I use a Schiit Gumby with it and find the results mostly amazing. DigiOne Signature is a Pi 3/4 with a Allo Signature power scrubber and Allo DIgiOne SPDIF/TOSlink board. The Signature power supply is on the USBridge Signature main board so you can add a DigiOne for SPDIF output. The case has knockouts for the TOSlink and SPDIF connectors.

I use RoPieee for software with the Allo parts. They’re perfectly happy. Just be careful to note which boards are in there as you’ll have to pick them during RoPieee configuration.

With all the power filtering on the Signature board, there is no need to worry about a magical power supply like those Allo will be glad to sell. A pair of Raspberry Pi4 supplies are fine. They have USB-C connectors so the annoying adapter is not needed. They are an honest 3 amps at 5V.
