Hi, one night ago my provider KPN in the Netherlands upgraded my router (KPN Box 12) software. Because it did not work I had ro reset the router completely and have lost the ARC port forwarding settings. Also the UI has changed because of the upgrade. How do I reinstate my previous ARC settings (port settings on the router?). I believe that several people in the community use KPN as provider in the Netherlands and have the same KPN Box 12 router.
Describe your network setup
Already discussed. KPN Box 12 router (fed by glassfiber 1000/1000 connection. This was also the case in the previous installation where ARC did work.
Only if these settings have been successfully done by a KPN (=provider) user based in the Netherlands, Europe they may be an option. But, last time I found out that the port range between 10,000 and 65,000 (in Europe we would call that 10.000 to 65.000 (. instead of ,) are NOT used/usable in this part of the world. The port is not my problem, it was 5500 and worked and I believe that that is still ok. So, for Europe/Netherlands port 5500 is completely ok.
My problem are the other router fields. So, I’m looking for a Dutch (Netherlands) client of the KPN provider like me who uses the KPN Box 12 router (after the recent upgrade) like me.
Hi SandsOf Arakis (he een Dune fan net zoals ikzelf),
I use 55000 in Germany, it depends on your provider. However, i referred to the range in the docs because I figured that Roon is not even listening on ports < 10000, at least I understood the docs this way.
But if it worked for you, then OK. It is, however, a very unusual configuration by your ISP and arguably violating internet standards because
The range of port numbers from 1024 to 49151 (210 to 215 + 214 − 1) are the registered ports. They are assigned by IANA for specific service upon application by a requesting entity.
and e.g. 5500 is already in use by other applications:
You are not likely to be using them, but the reason that the ports 1024 to 49151 are registered is precisely to avoid conflicts, and is why Roon defaults to 55000, which is in the free-use private range. If your ISP messes with that, they are being idiots.
I found this port via a another KPN user in their community. Considering the above I do not believe that there will be an actual conflict or transgession of rules.
And, Roon ARC rules! (irony).
Thanks,
Hans
P.s. the port Roon provides as standard did not work with my provider/router.
The ISP isn’t violating the rules by making it impossible for apps to have standardized behavior, i.e., using ports > 49151 for unregistered use and forcing them into a port range that is just not for this, but it’s a stupid thing to do.
