Lossless Listening Arrives on Spotify Premium (for real, this time)

That’s a lot more nuanced compared to the previous vid. Missing from the picture still are the different Connect options.

In my experience, Spotify Connect is flawless, allowing for lossless playback while all devices connected to the account can control the music seamlessly (and simultaneously). Qobuz Connect is more or less the same (and includes highres as well), but not yet present on every mainstream streaming device (looking at you, KEF). Tidal Connect is a bit more temperamental, mainly when using multiple devices. Apple Music over AirPlay is meh, shipping out lossy files (AAC 256) regardless of the quality of the source file. And Amazon does not have a connect-like option at all.

Oh well. Lots of poisons to pick from.

What I like about Spotify Connect is when open another device, it automatically knows if I’m already using Spotify Connect and switches to it. Don’t believe Tidal or Qobuz do this. Have to first manually connect to see it playing. Spotify also prompts you to reconnect to Spotify Connect when first open. Don’t have go thru settings. And not sure when you’d use this but, if get off WiFi network, you can still control Spotify Connect.

I have been pretty impressed with how far Qobuz has gotten with their app, even surpassing roon in some ways. But I really need lyrics added. It was really that and fact already had family plan on Spotify that caused me to switch. In past if Apple Music has a lossless wireless solution I may have gone with them. Qobuz still has some hole in its catalog.

This was a much better video. He didn’t really seem to give props to Spotify for passing the test and it’s a known that there is no hires. He also seemed to brush off bit perfect issues in Tidal even though the whole other video was giving Spotify ■■■■ for this. So this did show Spotify was better than some of the other services for CD quality music.

I would like to see him test the wireless options of these streaming services next. I truly think Spotify Connect is best currently and Apple Music one of the worst.

Qobuz does. I tried starting a stream via Qobuz Connect on a WiiM Ultra from my iPad before making the post. When I opened the Qobuz app from my Phone, it opened to the playing zone.

Oh that’s good to know. What about when playing music and open app like 20 minutes later. I seem to remember Qobuz no longer showing the Connect even though I still had music playing. I still have Qobuz until end of month so can test again. Just seem like it was missing last bit of polish but maybe it’s all been worked out. So really only complaints for Qobuz is lack of lyrics and slightly smaller catalog. It’s a pretty slick app. I was using it more than roon.

Qobuz Connect does

I laughed when watching the video. He needed to fill the video with something as it wasn’t going to last long as @wklie and I proved Spotify Lossless is bit-perfect already :joy:

He skimmed over that part very quickly.

No lyrics is an issue for me.

Fully agree in terms of connect options. Spotify Connect works perfectly while Tidal Connect is kind of buggy. With Tidal I’m always loosing connection when my Mac idles. And AirPlay is not even worth to talk about.

And from what I’ve read it’s highly requested features but no plans to add lyrics in the near future. And even with roon, live lyrics only added to tablet and desktop but not on phone. Not certain if live lyrics added to ARC but it’s a mobile app, not a remote.

I just struggle to understand most lyrics. Like how they made of Smells Like Teen Spirit being like Kurt had marbles in his mouth. But that’s how I feel with most artists. And like how the lyrics in Spotify are integrated into the playback and not a separate page unless you want it full screen.

Anyone see this?

Oh my. Timing and jitter are essentially solved problems with almost any modern DAC. Looks like more audiophool FUD.

Edit: Sorry in advance. Such comments never end well on this (and many other) forums. :face_with_peeking_eye:
