Finally! Would love to see it coming to Roon as well now. (and the rest of the family at home as well)

That’s up to Spotify and so far they were not interested.

@Suedkiez Sounds plausible. And Lossless is also not High-Res per definition.

In the UK, Spotify Premium costs more than Qobuz and TIDAL, and as far as I am concerned, streaming is a utility, just like an ISP.

With Lossless, you can now stream tracks in up to 24-bit/44.1 kHz FLAC

That seems to be all

Streaming is also a business model for the music industry. For those who believe this matters, it can be a strong criteria in choosing one service over another.

Well, anything over 16/44.1 is considered hi res, so 24/44.1 technically is. But I hope that’s all there will be and they won’t get on the nonsensical hi res bandwagon.

For me, streaming is a utility, and I will switch between them (currently Qobuz and TIDAL for Roon integration) based on price. I don’t use the native apps.

If you’re concerned about artists, support them more directly, and buy media or concert tickets.

I use streaming solely for discovery, and purchase what I like.

Oh absolutely yes to that, 100%. Still, I’d rather support a streaming company that seems to care a bit about artists than one that obviously doesn’t.

I expect that now that Roon is owned by Harmon, these discussions could have a new complexion.

I attend 40+ concerts each year, and I purchase my favorites from Bandcamp, and I subscribe to both Qobuz and Tidal. But for casual listening, Spotify is still my favorite and indispensible. Playlist sharing, Release Radar, Android Auto integration, and concert presale ticket access are just some of the ways that Spotify remains the best streaming music app for me. Tidal and Qobuz are nice, but distinctly inferior in flexibility, integration, and app usability.

For any who would like to see Roon/Harmon reopen discussions with Spotify now that lossless has launched, consider upvoting the feature request here.

The ownership does zero to address the stated reasons, but we’ll see

I just got an app update but still no lossless for me yet. I believe it when I see it. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

When can I start listening?
Lossless is rolling out gradually to more than 50 markets through October. Premium subscribers in Australia, Austria, Czechia, Denmark, Germany, Japan, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Portugal, Sweden, the US, and the UK have already started to get access.

Spotify integration would be very valuable for Roon. However, Spotify has little incentive to provide it. In fact, it would be almost against their business model. Spotify doesn’t care about being a generic content provider for a 3rd party – they want to control and drive the user experience, and collect data about user behavior. The same is also true for Apple Music and Amazon Music, which is why Roon has made little progress with those as well.

I can’t quite understand why 24/44.1 , to do this would have meant replacing all tracks from lossy to lossless so why not go 24/96 or 24/192 after which any res is just a conversion away and still lossless.

Surely not for storage space ?

Most probably they’ve had the lossless versions all along and compressing on the fly during streaming, depending on the plan (160 kbps for free, 320 kbps for premium).

Maybe , but if that was the case why so long to get to Lossless ?

We’ll never know …
