Lost tags - help!

Hi,

I’ve migrated from a NAS running Roon to a NUC with one drive for ROCK and another for the library.
I’ve followed the instructions for doing the migration:

  • Back up Roon on the old machine.
  • Restore Roon on the new one.

My tags for Qobuz albums in the library have come across, but the tags for my local music files have not.

Any help would be appreciated!

Cheers, Geoff

An update. If I disable the internal storage and enable the NAS the missing tags appear. If I then reverse this and disable the NAS and enable internal storage the tags disappear.

Have you rebooted the NUC and restarted the remotes after restoring the backup? I’ve seen a few things missing from display right after a restore

Is Roon up to date on all devices?

Thanks for the suggestion - I was worried that my t-shirt that says “have you tried turning it off and on” might have been right! But, alas, no, the tags that I created and applied to my stored locally files are still not there. The files themselves are.
Cheers, Geoff
PS: And yes, Roon is up to date on all devices.

What has happened is that Roon has seen the local music files as a new and different.

I would go back to the original RoonServer, disable all storage locations, then make a backup. Use this backup to restore to the new RoonServer. After you log in, Go to Settings/Storage. Ensure that all the storage locations are Disabled and that Roon cannot and has not yet seen the music on the internal drive. Then in the old NAS storage location you will see blue text that will allow you to Edit the old location to a new storage location.

There are others way to do this, the above is what I use. Here is the guide to moving your music files successfully from Roon…

Hi Daniel,
I’ve done a complete reinstall of ROCK, restored a backup, copied the files across (with the servers not running) and then started the server. All of the files have been seen by Roon but the tags are still not showing (they do show for my Qobuz library - not purchased files).
Any suggestions?

Cheers, Geoff

Did you make the backup of the original roon core after all storage locations on the original roon core were disabled?

Yes, I did that. :frowning:

Hmmm, actually maybe not. I’ll do it again and see what happens.

Reread my previous post as I go through the steps.

Thanks again Dan. All good!
Cheers, Geoff
