Description of Issue

I am getting loud random pops from my Buchardt A500’s. This has started happening since the Platin stereo hub was certified. Prior to certification connection was not possible in roon via the Platin and I was using the A500’s as chromecast endpoint’s as that is how they showed up in roon. In that mode I didn’t get the pops. The pops appear to be quite random. They are not happening at track transitions where, for example, there might be DAC resampling between tracks.

I have raised this issue in another thread but it was buried in a lot of noise about whether it is roon, the Platin or the Buchardt’s that are resampling to 48khz. The signal path as reported in roon is now rather long and convoluted with multiple devices in the chain reporting to roon. In my experience these sorts of pops are often associated with DAC resampling and a remedy is to increase the resync delay in roon. I have tried that and there is no change. I cannot imagine a simpler network than the one I have. For convenience I do use it in wifi mode but I have tried wired and it makes no difference.

Any suggestions? Seems strange that none of this came up in all the years that the certification took.

BTW. The original thread was moved to software discussion where no further engagement with support is possible as far as I can see so that thread may as well be closed to avoid any unnecessary duplication.

PS: I am also noticing increased instability of the Platin. I have had to reboot several times today, both the Platin hub and the roon core. This never happened prior to certification when I was using the Platin in chromecast mode.

As stated in that thread it is either the Platin or Buchardt, not roon. Many of the issues you are having seem to center on the Platin/Buchardt Wireless connection and I would suggest that you also inquire their tech support about them.

If your hub/speakers are going to resample to 48khz anyway, then, as a test, you should set Roon to resample everything to 24/48 before sending it out. See if it makes any difference in the Signal Path, and if it helps stabilize the connectivity, and lessens the “pops”.

Thanks @rugby. I have tried a few simple things like resampling in roon to 48khz before coming here but it makes no difference. I have of course reached out to both Platin and Buchardt. I haven’t heard anything yet.

But the resampling is not my question. That has sent everyone down a rabbit hole. My question is about roon certification. That’s why I changed the title in this post to avoid that confusion. So to be clearer. I find it difficult to believe that roon would certify a device that behaves like this. So what have they tested? What is roon usable on this device? Every conceivable feature set combination? It is a very complex device. A digital pre-amp, room correction, parametric EQ, WiSA output, multiple inputs both wired and wireless. Used with the Buchardt’s there is also a large number of “master-tunings”. There are going to be hundreds if not thousands (10’s of thousands?) of combinations.

Was it all tested or are there practical limitations to how it can be used as a roon endpoint? What are those limitations?

To me that is a question for roon really but I notice it is no longer possible to tag @support on the forum. Also the roon support link now splits to Roon help center and Roon community

Maybe it has been that way for a while but I have only just noticed. Can I expect an official response on the roon help center channel? I do notice a large number of comments about a lack of roon support responsiveness but is that about the community channel or the help center channel?

I still think there could be some useful input from community members who own a Platin hub but roon support really need to chime in about the limits of certification if this is what is at the root of this. So far the only engagement I have had from roon was from @benjamin who moved my original post with no comment.
