Assuming Roon volume control behavior hasn’t changed. My X1 is connected direct to amp, so I want to make sure there are no surprises coming when I hit play for the first time in this new Roon Only mode.
I recently put my X1 in Roon-only mode. As long as your volume control settings were appropriately set beforehand you’ll have no problem. I’m testing right now to determine whether I like the SQ in the new mode vs. using the Lumin app.
It has not changed (as long as you’re not doing a factory reset). You should always check the volume in Roon before hitting Play, however.
Hi Peter
Great info in your testing, curious what differences did you hear?
It does sound just marginally different hard to pinpoint it due to difficulties to a/b test requiring the factory reset but there’s definitely something there. Using T2
Thanks very much even a slight change in SQ is always worth it.
Cheers
I would only trust my own ears.
For me it’s hard to hear really differences (also I can’t do a A/B test) with the T2 in using the roon only modus or not with disabled airplay and other services.
Actually I reverted to Lumin app from Roon only experiment. Sounds better in my system.
Only functionality was tested. I’d rather read what users say. That being said, I did receive a positive confirmation from a business partner who tested using headphones.
Thank you Peter. Curious if native app or roononly mode is winning?? Also thank you for all the info and tips on various forums it’s been extremely helpful to all Lumin customers. Cheers
Are you saying that without any form of non-functional testing, every release risks worsening the sound quality?
Without any functional testing, anything can happen. It ranges from having annoying bugs, preventing our customers from enjoying their music, or the end of the world.
On U1 mini and Roon only mode, usb dacs and spdif/ aes outputs ca-n be used ?
On usb ca-n you attach 2 different dacs ?
On a typical Roon bridge this works.
Thank you
Goodmorning y’all… Just implemented the #ROONONLY thing and instantly got a lot more happier. That being said I’ld like to suggest to @wklie to prevent having to take the box out of the rack, the power supply from under the rack, press RESET and hold it for at least 20 secs, every time one turns the player on all whistles and bells will be enabled by default. Then those who want #ROONONLY have to manually enable that. Those who won’t, don’t. I do have to add that I never turn the U1 off. Those who do might not like this idea. Well, gotta go now, listen to music… Have a blessed Sunday…!
When not connecting to a USB DAC, AES / BNC / coaxial / toslink outputs can be connected up to 4 non-USB DAC.
When using USB audio output, only one DAC is supported.
Hi @wklie Peter! In this mode, the display is always a circle and the text Roon Ready? When playing, titles, formats, time, etc. are no longer displayed?
I think Roon Ready is only displayed at power up conclusion. During payback my D1 displays the normal music information as it did before.
I’m looking at a U1 or the new Mini. If I operate in ROON ONLY mode, Airplay is still active correct? I listen to quite a few apps on my phone sometimes.
Nope it does what it says on the Tin… Only Roon
You need to factory reset if you want to use other protocols.
It’s for those who want to do listening only in Roon and get the best possible audio output without anything else getting in the way or causing background computing noise
They should be displayed as in the past.
AirPlay is disabled.
Much as I like Roon, I’ve become a devotee of the Lumin app for critical listening. Perhaps it’s because all the music magic is happening in one device, with my X1 connected by fiber and outputting Leedh Processed music via Grimm XLRs to my amp and finally to my Vivid B1 Decade speakers. The only up-sampling is to covert 44.1kHz PCM to 128 DSD. Also, for those who appreciate MQA, I happen to believe that Lumin has nailed the process. Do I miss the ease/functionality of Roon? Somewhat. But I value SQ above all else. So I employ the Lumin app in my main rig and use Roon in my other listening areas.
But, have you compared the Roon Only mode with the Lumin based UPnP OpenHome playback? I’m curious!
