Lumin P1 Mini - It’s in the wild now and it Rocks 😎

Thanks Peter,
I tried the analog output to connect this FFT gadget.
Unfortunately this device does not normalize the sound, so it is difficult to get it display the spectrum nicely.

Is it possible to activate the USB output at full fixed gain (it would pass the signal to the FFT gadget through the Audioquest Dragonfly DAC, like a monitor output on mixing consoles), and at the same time enjoying the XLR Analog variable output with the Leedh volume ?

As far I remember, I’m pretty sure in early days of the U1 mini, it was possible to output on all digital outputs at the same time, but it was before Leedh was been implemented, and it is a different product.

And last point, I experienced connectivity issues (Spotify not casting, TuneIn not getting stations).
Now it has been totally solved by my ISP, hopefully.
But these difficulties showed that when offline, or partly offline, the P1 mini can become non responsive for a few minutes after booting (must wait to change inputs to play a CD through digital inputs).
Maybe this could be improved in the future, if my case is not isolated, because connection breaks can happen in rare occasions. But again this is now an issue of the past for me.

Back to the music, the experience provided by the Lumin still impress me after all these years without it  Impressive noise floor, and upsampling capabilities to DSD is a major advantage.

Cheers

No.

Only one of analog / USB / BNC-SPDIF output can be activated.

No one reported an issue like this. This is either a network infrastructure fault or faulty hardware.

How? What exactly did the ISP do? Did they replace the router? If there is anything an ISP can do to improve Spotify discovery, a likely possibility is that that replaced a buggy router with a less buggy one.

They indeed choose the easy way by replacing the router, after a few days of diagnostic very involving on my side. But this curious issue had more to do with advanced filtering, peering issues or other networking issues, than bugs in the router. I mean, by replacing the router, they refreshed the routing path and filters, with default construction routines, that is easier than investigating in detail.

I now just have a 10sec delay before the Spotify stream reach the Lumin.

By the way, fyi, I have successfully used a Ubiquiti UACC-OM-MM-1G-D-2 SFP module for the local network link, after doing all connectivity tests with an Ethernet cable. This SFP works nicely oob, ie with speed auto negotiate, and without the need of flow control on the switch, not expensive, readily available, and is less subject to counterfeit than the one suggested on the Lumin site.

As for the digital audio outputs, I also found a post where you said that Lumin U1 mini platform could output on both digital ports, with caveats, while on Lumin U2 mini, only one digital output can be chosen. That was under firmware 16.0 at the time.
Please consider giving back a little freedom (ie a setting), for enthusiasts. I understand the caveats were related to timing issues when the USB output is activated, I can partly imagine why this would be more complex to solve in the P1 mini, depending on whether it is delay or jitter issues. Maybe just enable the coax output with full gain, in conjunction with analog output would be very nice.

This sounds like wasted time to me. Buggy ISP router is nothing new. In many cases, the problem could have been solved simply by turning it into bridge mode, and use an inexpensive TP-Link router to do the routing function.

Please try different settings of Google DNS in Lumin app About P1Mini. If neither setting improves this latency, you may consider changing the ISP.

I had an interesting P1mini lockup the other day… put into Mute via the Roon API call… then it locked up…iR non responsive no app access (device not listed) and roon or any other option couldn’t unmute it. Playing was indicated but no sound. also no pause etc…just stuck playing with no output (Muted) @wklie

Please power cycle the unit and see if it’s possible to reproduce it.

Had to power cycle to restore normal operation. Will KIV and update

Finally got it working like a charm :

*“10sec delay before the Spotify stream reach the Lumin” SOLVED ! Looks like Spotify found out a solution. It was not latency, but rather something in the SDK I think.

As for my ISP story :grimacing:
*my ISP worked hard too to solve all its issues, it was apparently partly due to a (messed) staged network upgrade, as a bonus I could have a bump in WAN speed to 8Gbps/1Gbps (also latency is often below 5msec). And partly due to new security checks triggering because of ISP hardware S/N and inventory mess. They became super sensitive on that topic certainly because of the ongoing wars.
*it was a bit hectic on my side to diagnose and give a proof of all the issues (like 10-15 calls and video calls to my ISP, 1 ISP router swap, 3 resets, and a lot of time checking the conf of my own LAN), but finally got it working like a charm.
*a lot of ppl would have gave up and changed of ISP for sure.
*bridge mode is not a solution in many cases nowadays, because then the client must implement all ISP settings and its changes over time. It is VERY difficult and often requires reverse engineering and spoofing (in addition to internet, there is TV, VOIP, VOWIFI, …), and no support from the ISP (the ISP router has different kind of telemetry intergrated now, they rely on that for the support). Think also security, you have to manage that layer also. Rather a LAN router behind the ISP router is the way to go now. Routing with IPv6 is no more an issue when it is correctly deployed.
*TP-link router ? I have now dedicated hardware (pfsense, mikrotik, SFP+ fiber, and the like) in my LAN. I suspect a wide part of your customers have advanced networking equipments at home. But indeed, I began with TP-Link networking equipment, with custom firmware.
