Lumin U2 Mini intermittently not outputting signal

My U2 Mini, which I have been enjoying for over 3 years has just developed a problem where it will not output a signal to my Ferrum Wandla DAC over USB.

I have been using it in Roon Only mode, but did a factory reset, updated it from firmware 20 to the latest version of 21 using the Lumin app, checked to make sure the USB was still selected for output and power cycled it. Initially it worked, passing a signal through and I had music streaming from my Nucleus, through my Asus router and several metres of Ethernet cable to the Mini. From there it was outputting as normal to the DAC. However, if I pause the stream, I can’t restart it until I power cycle the transport again.

When looking at the Roon routing it is clear the file is being sent to the Mini, but it isn’t being sent from the Mini to the DAC. Any ideas about what might be happening and how to fix it?

Please disconnect the DAC from Lumin.

Please power cycle the whole network from the router, WiFi mesh, access points, network switches, Nucleus, Lumin, DAC.

After Lumin is powered up, connect to the DAC via a non-USB method. In Lumin app, select SPDIF output.

See whether this makes a difference.

Thanks for the swift reply, Peter. I will try this later today when I get home.

Hi Peter, I followed your instructions about power cycling my network and then hooked up my coaxial cable between the Mini and the Wandla DAC and selected spif in the menu on the Lumin app. I hit play in my Roon app and, though Roon indicated it was streaming to the Mini, the front screen of the Mini and the Roon app both indicated it was not playing through to the DAC. No sound was coming from my speakers.
I paused play in Roon and power cycled the Mini. When it indicated on the front screen it was ready to play and a second later when it had shown up as a zone in Roon, I pressed play again and the music began, which was great.
I went back and shut down the Mini and disconnected the coaxial cable and reconnected the USB, selected it in the Lumin app. Again I had to power cycle the Mini before music would play. But it did play.
I then stopped the music and shut my stereo off for 15 minutes. When I powered my system up again the Mini would again not play the stream from Roon until I cycled the power once again.
It seems once the Mini goes into pause, it won’t play music again until it is power cycled regardless of which output is selected.
This is a new and unwelcome development. Any ideas for a fix?
Again thanks for your help.

I later put the Mini in #ROONONLY mode and it was unable to play the stream from the nucleus even after power cycling. This is a bit off putting as think the #ROONONLY setting sounds marginally cleaner and more spacious with my system. I may have been one of the early adopters and my U2 Mini has served faultlessly in this mode until now.
I am hoping there is a fix for this.

Are you using a third party LPS? If yes, please restore the factory SMPS.

I am using a third party linear power supply, an SBooster, which was installed by one of Lumin’s dealers here in Canada when I purchased the U2 Mini.
I don’t have the technical ability to restore the original power supply, though it was included in my purchase.
After all these years of functioning properly, how could this manifest this issue?
Thanks for your support thus far.
