Lumin U2 mini released

The question is does the 4ch DAC still work in 4 channels via the Lumin or does it only do 2ch.

Lumin is stereo only.

I have my Lumin U2 Mini for about 6 months now. I use it with a small dedicated desktop (HP 260 G4 with 24 of ram and a 256 Gb ssd) as Roon Core. The Lumin is hooked to an Okto Research Dac8 though USB till tomorrow as I’m expecting a Holo Spring 3. Once the new dac is there I’ll try to go back to the Lumin without RAAT for a while to compare the SQ.

Hi Sebastian

Based on my experience you will improve your sound adding the lumin in your chain. Also adding a linear power supply to your NUC will improve the sound further.
Your DAC is like the T+A top of the line where any smaller change, is it a XLR cable or power cord will make a noticeable change. Adding the lumin U2 mini will definitely enhance your experience. Also try to lend out different USB cables and check out what change it makes connecting the lumin U2 mini to your Weiss dac.

Thanks Marco. Indeed my NUC runs on a SBooster linear power supply. Also my Aqbox ethernet switch Runs on one. The differences are subtile but clear and pleasant to my ears
I wonder what would the Lumin bring in terms of improvements to my setup
Cheers

Let me know about your experience! I did exactly the same and i am wondering now what a U2/U1 adds to the table. (Want to skip the linear ps upgrade for the U2 mini). Changing power cords on the U2 mini stock made no real audible difference for me. Enjoy

Hey guys,

I’m in the middle of filming a review for the U2 Mini and I’ve got a quick question.
Is there a way to make larger titles scroll so they’re not cut off on the mini’s screen? I went through the menus and can’t seem to find this option.
Thanks in advance,
Chibs

No, we do not have this feature.

Thanks for your quick reply. Is this feature something that could be implemented down the road as a toggle?

Sorry, no.

@wklie Have there been some changes / improvements in 16. firmware made to ROONONLY mode?

Hi Peter. I have had problems with my Lumin U2 mini after firmware 16.0h. Music stops and jumps. Sometimes it can play whole songs but then stops or skips. When I received a message that firmware 17.0a could be installed and I pressed yes, nothing happened. I tried several times and nothing happened so I gave up. After a while I was inside and checked again and it said that firmware 17.0a had been installed. Same problems after upgrade. The problem exists both with the Lumin app and when using Roon. I have no problems with the Lumin U1 mini in the same position so there are no network problems. Do you have a solution to fix my problem?

Disconnect Lumin USB. Use AES / BNC / coax / toslink to connect it to your DAC.

Put a few FLAC files on a USB thumb drive. Plug it into Lumin. In Lumin app, choose Lumin USB music server as the library. Clear the playlist. Add those files to current playlist.

Turn on repeat. See if it can play for 24 hours.

Hi Peter. I have now played for 24 hours with FLAC files in repeat. No problems have occurred during this test. After I was playing an album using Qobus when the error occurred again after song 7. The music stops and starts over and over again. The song lasted 3.12 minutes, but the time on both Lumin and app just continious over this time. It seeems like the U2 mini is very slow after this. Do you have any suggestions what can be done?

So local playback is ok. Next we’ll need to see if the network is ok.

Please run the free MinimServer on a computer or NAS, put those FLAC files there. Clear your Lumin playlist, choose the library as MinimServer, add those FLAC files from MinimServer and recheck repeat playback.

Other ways to check the network is to test with Internet radio (but depending on your location and the station location, some of them are not going to play well no matter what), and test with Spotify free account.

I have now tried to play with the same files using MinimServer without success. I can add the files to the playlist, but the songs won’t play. Also played internet radio. Here it plays approx. 2 seconds silence for 1 minute and then sound again for 2 seconds, etc. When using Spotify, I occasionally get to play for 10 minutes before it stops. Then sometimes nothing will work and I have to do a reset on Lumin.

When I switch to my U1 mini to play in the same system with same network cable everything works as it should. Both MinimServer, Spotify, Qobus and Roon.
Is it possible to install a complete firmware using a usb stick?
I see there is a Resue Mode using the reset button on the back of the player.

I did a ping test for U2 mini and that is ok. Here is the result.
