Lumin X2 world premiere Singapore now FPGA based Streamer DAC

Just had the pleasure of meeting Angus again this time with the new X2 flagship.

Thanks to Brandon at Audio88 for the invite.

What’s the official launch date? Look forward to learning of other changes besides FPGA.

Interesting that the X2 has dual femto clocks (I read this somewhere) but no sign of an OCXO clock, as with the U2X.

My guess is the X2 is optimized as an integrated player/streamer where internal femto clocks give the best immediate sonic result without the added complexity of an oven oscillator.

The U2X is presented as a flagship transport/clock-centric product with 10M clock input-output and a built-in OCXO so it can be used as a master for other devices (or as a selectable internal master). Reviews explicitly call out the U2X’s OCXO and the option to select it in the menu.

That explains to me why Lumin put an OCXO into the U2X but not into the X2.

Finally

I look forward to reading professional reviews—and owner reflections—on the X2. To be sure, with Lumin’s established expertise in streaming platforms, the custom FPGA and new processing should be unimpeachable.

As an owner of an X1, I’m amazed at how good the move from the A1 to the X1 was back in 2018. Lumin hit it out of the park, creating in my estimation a classic.

Upgrading from the A1 to X1 wasn’t just “a bit better”—it was a significant step up in design philosophy: from very good high-end streamer to flagship class with audiophile‐grade components, exceptional build quality, and high‐resolution support, including a new external PSU, improved solid chassis, advanced DAC chips and network isolation with the first mainstream fiber implementation. Lumin went for “no compromise” in the X1; reviews describe it as “re-engineered throughout.”

Of course, the icing on the cake was the constant firmware upgrades —think LEEDH and other firsts—and participation by @wklie in various HiFi forums, including this one.

It will be an interesting decision about whether to upgrade but for the reasons given above, I’ll be content with my X1 if I don’t.
