Mac mini M4, Roon Server and remotes 2.58 build 1608 tracks stop playing, both Qobuz and local library (ref#GP3MVL)

Hi! What’s not quite right with Roon?

Tell us what's going on

· Mac mini M4, Roon Server and remotes 2.58 build 1608 tracks stop playing, both Qobuz and local library
I migrated the server to the Mac mini recently, was on another MacOS device before.
The library was on an SMB and now is on an HDD connected to the Mac mini.

Restarting the server helps as a temporary fix.
Happens again after a while, especially if I don't use Roon for a day.

All devices except iPad are connected in ethernet.

I see: RoonAppliance MacOS error: -25294 quite often in the console whether the issue is happening or not.

· Router: Asus RT-AX88U, Proton VPM on the MacMini, issue happens independently of the VPN activation.

Thanks for your help,

Hello @James_GALT,

Thanks for reaching out to us with these questions.

We have reviewed the diagnostic logs from your machine and identified two main issues affecting your playback:

1. KEF Connectivity Your KEF LS50 Wireless II speakers are frequently losing connection to your Roon Server, which indicates an unreliable network link.

  • Recommendation: If they are currently using Wi-Fi, we highly recommend connecting them via Ethernet cable to ensure stability. If that isn't possible, please look into optimizing your Wi-Fi signal strength in that area.
2. Mac Mini Settings We are seeing your Mac Mini repeatedly lose connection to its drive. This usually happens when the system tries to conserve power.
  • Recommendation: Please disable the sleep setting for your drives.
    • Go to System Settings > Energy Saver (or Displays > Advanced depending on your macOS version).
    • Ensure that "Put hard disks to sleep when possible" is toggled OFF.
    • Note: You should also ensure the Mac Mini itself is set to "Prevent computer from sleeping automatically when the display is off".
Please let us know if these changes stabilize the system for you.

Thanks.

Hi Alex,

Thanks for the quick answer.

The KEF are connected via ethernet, I’ll check the cables and factory reset them.

i’ll also set the HDD settings and let you know.

thanks again

James

@James_GALT,

Thanks for working with us on this.

Could you please let us know if disabling the “Put hard disks to sleep” setting made a difference?

Based on the logs, the drive disconnecting appeared to be the primary cause of your playback stopping, so confirming that fix is our top priority right now.

Looking forward to your reply.

Thanks.

Hi Alex,
The issue seems to be resolved.

Thanks again for your help.
