On my M2 Mac Mini my Roon remote app memory (RAM) usage hovers between min 2GB and mx 8GB and CPU is typically between min 5% to max 15%. Seems like a lot. The machine only has 16GB RAM.
Behavior seems typical of a memory leak or even an “unrelated background task” to me. So I just restart it a lot. For the record I do have Tidal enabled. I guess I will try it without the Tidal plugin and report back.
Keep up the great work guys, I can’t imagine life without Roon at the office. But this is kind of annoying… I guess I should have gotten the Studio with 64GB RAM. Or something.
Hi @Larry_Zoumas,
Thanks for writing in to us about this issue. I’ve split your post into a new topic so you can get individualized answers. Often even if the symptoms you are seeing are similar to other users differences in set up can mean what works for you will be different.
Are you getting any slowness or issues with playback from Roon? Do you use any DSP with Roon?
same here. Roon Server is running fine on a dedicated windows pc. But Roon client eats all my memory on Macbook Pro M1. Have to restart it several times a day
Hi daniel, thanks for the response. I have some convolutions and parametric eq settings, but they are all disabled. I tried disabling my Tidal plugin as suggested in another thread… but that didn’t seem to help anything. After an hour or so the memory goes up to 8GB and the cpu goes up to 15%. I have started to just use my Roon iphone app instead of Mac app until the problem is resolved, as the memory and CPU is starting affect system performance overall. That’s a lot of RAM.
Can you please let us know the exact local time + date when you next notice the abnormal memory usage (around 8GB)? We’ve enabled diagnostics mode for your account and what this does is upload a lot set for review.
Looking over the current log, there only appears to be one abnormal thing that I see, which is that a device named ASUS PB278 keeps disconnecting and re-connecting to the Server, I wonder if this has anything to do with the memory usage.
Please let us know the exact time + date when it next occurs and we can take another look at the logs to see if we can uncover further clues. Thank you.
It’s been happening since I bought a new Mac Mini M2. That Asus (ASUS PB278) device is my second monitor connected by HDMI. My primary monitor is connected via displayport. Could the issue really be caused by a second external monitor? Tomorrow I will test and see if that is the cause. What should the memory footprint be of a Mac client?
It is very strange that a display is showing up in Roon logging, this is the first time I am seeing this kind of behavior. Is there anything plugged into the USB of the monitor or something like that? Yes, do let us know if the issue subsides without the monitor connected.
Okay… get this. For days nothing helped. Memory slowly crept up to 8GB.I tried disabling the monitor, re-installing (and deleting associated files), nothing. But as soon as I upgraded to Sequoia it resolved the problem. So weird. I guess it was an OS level bug??
