Mac OS Catalina / Intel Mac compatibility roadmap

Hi,
No idea if this can be answered on this forum, but I’m hoping I can get a steer on whether I should replace my Roon server (2012 Mac Mini running Catalina) with an alternative.

Are there any plans to cease updates, support and compatibility on Intel Macs/Catalina?

That 13 year old machine is still running like a champ, but it only has two purposes - photo back up and Roon server. Is now the time to jump to a newer device? Anything in the development roadmap?

Thanks

Hello @David_Horncastle,

Thank you for reaching out to Roon Support.

At this time, we do not have any plans to drop support for specific operating systems, as long as the OS supports all the required components to run the Roon Server. If those requirements are met, everything should continue to run smoothly.

Please let us know if you have any further questions!

I’ve used my old 2014 Mac Mini for quite awhile as a Roon Server. But not running on MacOS, but instead on Linux. It ran great.

A few months ago I’ve replaced it with a tiny little NUC running Roon ROCK. The NUC is a pure Roon Server only though.

Thanks for the prompt reply.

I did think of just installing ROCK on the Mac, but I do get value from using it to back up my photos, too. Photos get automatically downloaded from iCloud, giving me a local record, then that’s backed up via Time Machine. My memories are too important to leave solely with any cloud provider!

Looks like I’m good to keep this old machine around for a while longer.
