MacBook connected to Roon Server but not showing local DAC (ref#S9NQDG)

Hi! What’s not quite right with Roon?

· None of the above quite fits

None of the above quite fits

· None of these quite match

· MacBook connected to Roon Server on MacMini but is only showing the output devices from the MacMini (server) - can't play on a DAC connected to MacBook - macOs 26 on both systems - Roon fresh installed

Hello @Stephan_Erhard !

Can you play to this dac connected to your mac from other sources like apple music ?

Can you please share a screenshot from your “Audio” page in Roon ?

And if you attach this dac to your Roon Server hosting machine, will you see it ?

Thanks!

Hello Alex,

Other sources play without problems via this DAC (Dragonfly Red).

When I connect this DAC to Server I can see it - Screenshot attached.

Thanks in Advance!

Hey @Stephan_Erhard,

Thanks for the additional information! As a first step, can you double-check your mac firewall settings on the issue macbook?

If you temporarily disable your macOS firewall, does the DAC show up?

Recent macOS updates have tighter (and more obfuscated) network security settings than preceding MacOS versions.

Can you please navigate to macOS System Settings > Privacy & Security > Local Network, and make sure Roon and Roon Server are allowed.

If it is already enabled, toggle it off and on again. Then reboot your Mac, and see if the same issue persists.

Thank you!

Hi Benjamin,
Firewall is disabled on both machines, toggled the Setting for local Network as described, rebooted but still the same issue.
For my understanding the MacBook should show up in the Audio-view like the iPad and iPhone do - but is only listed in the other network devices?
I tried also both wireless and ethernet connection with the MacBook…
Thanks in Advance

Hi @Stephan_Erhard,

Thanks for giving that a try! Is the DAC typically connected via USB?

If so, on the issue mac, let’s refresh the RAATServer settings.

  • Exit out of Roon
  • Navigate to your Roon’s Database Location
  • Find the folder that says “RAATServer”
  • Rename the “RAATServer” folder to “RAATServer_old”
  • Restart the Roon App to generate a new RAATServer folder

Thank you!

Hi Benjamin,

Thanks but I did this before without success.

The DAC is connected via USB-C Port and is working fine with other apps.

This is not a Problem related to the DAC it is for my understanding a general Problem with the ROON Software on this MacBook.
I’ve attached screenshots from the Audio- and About-Page from the MacBook

Under “This Mac” it is shown the same config as on the Server (MacMini) - seeing only the Devices directly attached to Server…

For my understanding under the section This Mac I should see the devices attached to MacBook eg MacBook Air-Loudspeaker and the Dragonfly DAC…

I can use the MacBook at the moment only as a remote to control the playback on the Server … Connection is all fine so no Network or Permission-Issues to be considered.

I have still 9days left for testing, but without proper function it will be sad to say goodbye to this very good App…

Thanks in advance

Hello @Stephan_Erhard,

Thank you for the update. We’d like to bring your case to our R&D and QA teams for further review.

We’ve requested diagnostic data from both your server and your remote, but for some reason the data from the remote is not reaching our servers. Could you please bring your remote back online and let us know here once it’s connected to the internet? This will allow us to collect the required diagnostics and continue the investigation.

Thank you for your help.

Hello Vadim,

Thanks for your support, the remote is now online and connected to the internet.

Hi @Stephan_Erhard,

We’ve extended your trial to accommodate for this additional troubleshooting. :+1:

A side question for you - did you also by chance download and install Roon Bridge on the issue Mac? If so, you can remove this, as running the issue Mac as a Roon remote (using the Roon app) will provide the same functionality.

Did you use Time Machine across your macs, restoring the same macOS database from your Macmini to your MBA?

And lastly, if you temporarily disable Roon Server on your Mini, and shut the machine off. Then, temporarily open and run Roon Server on the issue MBA, are you able to see the local audio devices in this situation?

Thank you!

Hi Benjamin,
Thanks for the extension.
Roon Bridge was tested and uninstalled and no TimeMachine Restore was used.

Disabling the Roon Server on Mini and setup a new Server on the Macbook is showing the local devices attached to the Macbook

Hi @Stephan_Erhard ,

Just to summarize our findings, do we understand correctly that you are talking about UDA-DAC ? And it is visible on the Mac Mini running as server, but not visible when connected to MBA when it’s running as Remote, but if you set it up as server and connect DAC to it - it will be working just fine ?

Also, please turn on the MBA once again so we could retrieve a diagnostics data from it. Thanks!

Looking forward to your reply.

Hi Alex,
yes, the DAC is only available on the MBA when setup as a server - as a remote (connected to the server running on the MacMini) no direct connected device to the MBA is visible when running Roon.

The MBA is up again

Thanks for your help

Hi @Stephan_Erhard,

From a recent Roon Server diagnostic report, we saw some of the following traces showing the UDA dac successfully connecting:

Trace: [raatserver] [UDA-01 96KHz USB DAC] connected

Are you still having issues here?

Info: [transport] with endpoint UDA-01 96KHz USB DAC (23:1:60544110-1d75-021e-424f-f481ec0d493f) [IsAvailable=True]
Trace: [UDA-DAC] [Inactive] [STOPPED @ 0:00]
Trace: [raatserver] [iBasso-DC04-Pro] connected

Thank you!

Hi Benjamin,
Problem still exists with the MacBook working as a remote and connected to the MacMini (Roon Server)
No output device connected directly to the MacBook is visible in Roon.
What you see in the report are the devices attached to the MacMini.

@Stephan_Erhard

Please download Roon Bridge to the Mac that is not visible as an endpoint: Download Roon - Mac, Windows, iOS & Android Apps | Free Download

This acts as a standalone RAAT server and should enable Roon Server to detect the device.

Let us know if this improves the situation.

Hi Alex,

installed the Roon Bridge again (did this already before) but nothing changes.
Can’t see the Macbook as an Endpoint - only shown as AirPlay Device…

@Stephan_Erhard

This suggests the issue lies with the RAAT server process.

Please check Privacy & Security > Local Network on your Mac and ensure access is enabled for RoonBridge.

If the issue persists, please collect your Roon Bridge logs and upload them to our Logs Storage.

Log path for Roon Bridge logs should look like: /Users/%username%/Library/RoonBridge/Logs

Let us know once the logs are uploaded.
