Mad Noise between tracks

System setup:
ropieee XL 2023.05.01 on a RPi4 as an endpoint. Okto DAC8 Pro connected with an INTONA galvanic isolator.

I recently did a firmware update on the DAC to V 1.5 and the same time (stupid enough) I did update ropieee XL to the latest version. What happens now is something I never observed before:

  1. higher level of white noise sometimes especially between the tracks or if no music plays at all.
  2. the noise disappears completely as soon a track starts
  3. between tracks and more intensively if the format changes: flickering on the display of the DAC and some funny sizzling noise. This takes until the track actually starts to play

Okto Research told me there is more like this noticed for RPi4 devices and assume it is something with ropieee. As a firmware upgrade is not possible I can only test an older version of ropieee. But this is also not possible because I did not collect the images.

By any chance - do you have any idea what this could be? What could I do?

As long as it plays the music everything is impeccable as before but this noise in between is annoying.

Kind Regards
Ronny

If you’re getting noise when no music is playing, that sounds like a DAC USB firmware issue to me. Could be the Intona USB interface, I suppose. Have you tried removing the Intona to make sure that it is not the problem?

My two rpi4/RoPieeeXL updated to the last version don’t have any issue using upnp/NAA/Squeezelite … try with another dac if possible and remove intona

This seems a clear dac issue …

Thanks for all the answers.

I did try the RPi with the INTONA on my other DACs and it did not happen again. Of course the Okto is a 8 channel DAC and because of that comparison is difficult. But I suppose it went something wrong with the firmware update on DAC.
