Be accurate.
Matrix Audio began blocking devices based on the region/country of purchase and whether they were bought from an authorized dealer.
So no more self-bought devices from taobao/ali.

Whom should be accurate?
More information is always of more use. This sounds intriguing, but without context it is almost meaningless.
Anyone who is buying matrix audio devices from Chiniese sellers (taobao/ali). Or anyone - who already did it.
Any device could be blocked, if it was for internal Chiniese market. So only devices bought from official dealers - are safe.
Ouch, looks like profit margins are being protected.
But if someone gets a bargain off eBay, how would they know.
It could get ugly and is probably a legal grey area if there is nothing to indicate it on the box or device.
I own 2 MA devices but both were bought directly from UK resellers, but I am not always as careful, and I would be seriously p155ed if that happened to me ![]()
The only way to request from the seller: “what was the dealer/country where it was bought”.
I have devices too, which I purchased from a local dealer.
But my friends are having regular trips to China. And for them, buying in China is no longer an option.
It’s good of you to bring it to the attention of Roon users here. Those beautiful new devices are not cheap either
I quess someone with a locked device could put a Chinese vpn in front of it ?
If the device was already locked, it won’t help.
But for me, the fact that my device, after I paid money, could be blocked, and there is no official communication from Matrix Audio, is ridiculous.
Shame Matrix Audio. I have a few products that I like, but I will think twice before buying something next.
Matrix has a community forum and I’ve had success registering minor bug issues in the forum that were later fixed:
You might get some understanding or a fix via that path.
I don’t have an issue, as my devices were bought from a DE dealer. Please read the first messages.
I found this information (about locking) on the Matrix Community forum. And I find it awful.
This ruins the trust in the company and 2nd market.
There is no official information about such possibilities. Matrix Audio was asked about this several times. They are not responding to any public inquiries.
So the 2nd-hand market for Matrix Audio is dead. As I as a customer, have to care - where seller bought this device, checking all this. Why should I do it? How should I even be aware that I need to do this, given that there is no official information on the Matrix Audio website stating that devices bought for the Chinese market could be locked in other countries?
Well that’s clearer…you certainly didn’t communicate any of that initially!
They published information:
now all good. Everyone aware
