Using Roon on an Antipodes DX server, USB output to a Mcintosh Preamp/DAC.
When a song is started the first 1/2 second of the song is cut off and instead of starting the song at full volume it fades in over the course of a second or so.
Crossfade is turned off as is Roon internal volume control.
Yes tried resync, cross fade, etc. and nothing helped. It appears to be a design choice by Mcintosh to implement a 100ms delay at the beginning of every track - most annoying! I’m wondering if there are other users of Mcintosh DAC’s on there who can weigh in.
Tried that, didn’t do anything. What I need is for Roon to not send “silence” but to send almost a dummy signal that the Mcintosh will think is an actual signal.
Because when the Mcintosh DAC sees silence it mutes itself. When it sees a
signal it stays muted for 100ms and then wakes up. If there was a dummy
signal outside of the audible range present at tall time it would stay
awake.
So… wait a minute… I can see the DAC muting when there’s truly no signal, but I don’t know of any other DAC on the market that mutes when there is an active stream of zero-level bits.
After a cursory google search it sounds like this is a common issue with the McIntosh USB implementation and has been annoying users for some time. So far, it would appear that regardless of numerous complaints McIntosh hasn’t done anything to correct it.
@Igor_Kivritsky did you ever solve this issue? I am sitting here February 25th, 2018 and this issue still exists on their flagship d1100 DAC. Very disappointing that this has not been fixed by McIntosh.
Yes it’s been resolved. I actually “bricked” our C2600 during a firmware update so Mcintosh sent us a new one with the new firmware which solves the problem. You have to go into the menu of the DAC and de-select the “mute feature before a track plays.” How old is your C1100? Does it have the latest firmware? If yes you should be able to find the mute feature in the menu’s.
Thanks. I have the latest firmware on both the c1100 and d1100 so far as I know (2.01 and 1.02 respectively). Unfortunately, the option you are talking about doesn’t exist on those platforms
