What are the make and model of the affected audio device(s) and the connection type?
· Meridian ID41, 8k speakers. All ethernet connected.
Describe the issue
My Meridian ID41 devices have disappeared from the output list and are not visible on the Audio settings panel.
I have rebooted everything, audio devices, NAS-QNAP server for Roon, plus network router etc.
Describe your network setup
tp-link mesh router setup (although all audio devices are ethernet connected). Roon server running on a QNAP NAS. 2 x Meridian 818's with ID41 cards playing into Meridian 8k speakers
Thanks for writing in! It’s good to see you on the community again!
Following up on your issue, are you able to use the ID41’s outside of Roon? Based on a recent diagnostic report from your Roon Server, it looks like Roon was able to see your Cambridge device as RoonReady without issue, are the ID41s connected via a different mesh node within your network?
I’d go ahead and temporarily hardwire the issue devices directly to your primary router and see if you run into the same issue. Testing different cables and ports may be helpful as well.
Hi Benjamin - the ID41’s are only connected to Roon, I got rid of the Sooloos thing years ago, so I am at a loss on how to proceed? I can confirm that all other networked devices such as my two Sonos speakers and a Cambridge Evo One are all fine, all ethernet connected. Please note that my network topology has been like this for some time, the only recent change I am aware of was the new software update. The ID41’s (as all my audio devices are) are hardwired by ethernet to the router, although they do go through a couple of unmanaged switches - direct wiring to the router is not possible I’m afraid - in fact one of the ID41’s is connected through to my primary router, the other one goes through ethernet to one peripheral mesh router before it in turn is ethernet to the main router.
PS I forgot to say the ID41’s appear in the router list of devices, and I can navigate to their IP addresses in a browser and both of them reply back with the expected web page
Further update, have tried plugging in an old Meridian 218 directly into the main router, and that is not picked up by Roon either.
Separately, I have downgraded all my tp-link deco devices (main router + 2 access points) to the previous firmware version and that has made no difference either.
Have cold booted everything and still Roon can only see my Sonos and Cambridge Audio devices, not the 2 x 818’s/ID41’s and 1 x 218.
Can I downgrade my roon server to the previous version of the software and see if that fixes it?
I use Nucleus Plus for my core and both ID 41 and SLS in 818 v 3 are visible on the mac ’s I use to control Roon [Not sure if this helps but my QNAP, on which I store library, update this morning]
I have now rolled back the firmware on the QNAP by two versions, to the november 2024 build - but this has not fixed the problem…given we are about ten days in to this problem, could it be escalated please?
Since the issue is only happening on the QNAP NAS, this suggests that it is something regarding the QNAP network configuration. Was the Mac connected in the same way as the QNAP was connected (e.g. using the same Ethernet cable), or was it connected via WiFi? Have there been any firewall changes made to the QNAP?
Hi - yes the mac was connected by ethernet cable too, and I am not aware of any firewall changes made to the QNAP - could that have happened with the latest firmware upgrade perhaps? I did roll back a couple of firmware changes on the QNAP, but not sure if the firewall would have been affected by that?
Bear in mind however that the QNAP is correctly seeing and outputting to other brand network devices I have, including 3 Sonos speakers and a Cambridge Audio EVO, all of which are ethernet connected too.
Thanks for the update! Let’s take a closer look at your QNAP settings.
Since Meridian devices use multicast for discovery, IGMP snooping and multicast filtering settings on the QNAP or network switch could be interfering. Try disabling IGMP snooping on the QNAP and/or network switch and test again.
Check whether the QNAP’s firewall is enabled and blocking necessary ports for Roon’s device discovery - temporarily disable it altogether and see if your issue persists.
If your QNAP has multiple ethernet ports, test out swapping cables and ports.
Thanks Benjamin, ultimately this got me to the fix, though it was a strange one.
I could not find any IGMP snooping setting on the QNAP NAS, and it did not seem to have a firewall option either, so I downloaded the QuFirewall app and by default it set the firewall to on - so I turned it off, but that made no difference so I removed the QuFirewall app again.
I then moved onto the router/extenders - my TP Link Deco routers did not seem to have an IGMP snooping option, and couldn’t see anything else about multicast or firewalls.
Lastly I moved onto my managed 24-port TP-Link switch, which does have an option for IGMP snooping. So I turned that option off, but it made no difference either. I then tried a soft reboot, then a factory reset and neither made any difference.
This morning in desperation I unplugged the 24-port switch and did a cold boot - switched it back on and after it rebooted hey presto all devices back in Roon!
I have now rolled the QNAP and TP-Deco’s back to latest firmware and all still working sweetly. So we got there in the end!
