· I have a wired network. I am running PiHole and suspect that the metadata improver is being blocked due to that. I believe it would be helpful to whitelist the DNS of the metadata service so that I can eliminate PiHole as an issue.
Just to set expectations: Pi-hole and other DNS-level filtering solutions are not officially supported by Roon, so we can’t guarantee correct behavior when they’re in place.
That said, after reviewing the server logs, we can see the exact metadata service domains your Roon Server is trying to access. If Pi-hole is blocking any of these, it can cause Metadata Improver to remain in a Paused state.
After whitelisting, please restart the Roon Server and check whether Metadata Improver resumes.
While this often helps, we’re unable to guarantee functionality with DNS filtering in place. If the issue persists, the most reliable test is to temporarily bypass Pi-hole and see whether Metadata Improver resumes normally.
Let us know how it goes and we’ll continue from there.
Have you had any success with safelisting or reassigning the DNS service? We wanted to reach back out to see if there was any other assistance we could provide before this topic thread auto-closed due to inactivity.
So far after the most recent upgrade (I am on Roon Rock 2.1) things have disappeared for the warnings. I will add these to my whitelist regardless. We can consider this closed and thank you for the help.
