Both Celtic Frost’s ‘To Mega Therion’ and this one, the debut of Metal Church, are for me the best albums of the 1980s. I once saw Metal Church in, I believe, 1986, live and that was easy among my top five gigs ever.
And may my grandmother rest peace. I remember her giving me money to buy this album. I’ll admit, I was still a kid and simply went for it because of the drawing. No regrets though.
Yea, after To ‘Mega Therion’ it all went downhill for me until their 2006 comeback album ‘Monotheist’.
I am a huge Triptykon fan as well. I am looking forward to a new Triptykon album this year.
I came to appreciate this much later than the original hey day which predated my rock awakening (first def leppard hysteria… ahem… in 1987 quickly followed by appetite for destruction… which for me and most others at the time was definitely… metal)
I remember buying all the singles, the ‘Flight 19’EP, and the compilation albums with Angel Witch tracks on them, like ‘Extermination Day’ before the album came out.
To be honest, I was a bit disappointed by the production of the debut album. When you listen to ‘Fight 19’ and ‘Extermination Day’ you’ll notice the production is much heavier. Still, the song are great which makes it a damned good album. A jewel in the crown of the NWOBHM genre.
Reminds me of Saxon to a degree albeit more spit and sawdust rock n roll style. Different aesthetic but still 3 great albums denim and leather, wheels of steel and strong arm of the law. Still holds up
Nope - he was a genuine satanist, whose girlfriend committed suicide after being so devastated by abuse and twisted beliefs. His table of inverted crucifixes is a sad display of hellish rebellion, as was his sick art - probably the worst waste of money and time I have ever engaged in when visiting that museum close to my home.
Exactly a year ago, right before the global lockdown, I was at a show where one of the headliners were VLTIMAS:
… Rune Eriksen (AURA NOIR, EARTH ELECTRIC, ex-MAYHEM) … David Vincent of … MORBID ANGEL … drummer Flo Mounier from CRYPTOPSY …
David Vincent as a frontman is just unbelievably perfect!
I bought CD and LP even though I don’t have a turntable.
Another headliners were Suffocation. I’ve never really gotten into their music on studio albums, but live performance is a completely different matter! I didn’t even think that in the local club the technicians would be able to fine tune the sound for them so well. Very impressed.
Helloween concert should have been last year and was postponed to May. I’m not at all sure it is going to happen, maybe later this year could be possibility. Looking forward to see Helloween now because Kiske is back with them!
