Metal music discussion 🤘 [2021-05]

There are lots of good metal from Australia! During winter I searched Australian metal but never noticed Suldusk. I did not want to wait and bought that album moment ago :slightly_smiling_face:

So glad you like this album. I have listened to it several times in the last 2 days. It was a lucky find going down a rabbit hole of listening to 5 minutes here and there of 30 to 40 albums. It has left me with quite a lot in my wish list as well.

Makes a nice change to be able to share something you have not already listened too

Bandcamp just has so many good artists on the platforms

Yes great find, just finishing my second listen of that album! I liked Myrkur: Mereridt very much and this reminds of that but Suldusk is maybe little easier for many people than Myrkur…

Good that you cost me some Bandcamp purchases after I managed to get you to buy some metal bands/albums

This has found far less favour with the wife than Suldusk, but musically it is very good.

She has yet to become a fan of the black metal singing, so I must be making progress

Yes you got me hooked on Myrkur, and I have been buying up the catalogue.
I have had to turn the Veldes album off as the wife really doesn’t like it (back on headphones when she is asleep)

Funnily enough the Neo folk/Dark folk genre has become a bit of a favorite of mine.

I think this might be the album that started it for me. Still one of my favorite album’s of 2021 and I would be very surprised if it is not in my top 5 come the end of the year.

Yes I am guilty for introducing you to Empyrium :grinning: and that album will absolutely be in my top10 2021 album list!

A Roon recommendation and I’m really liking it, a little on the lighter side for some maybe but it’s very well recorded.

Excellent - I have pretty much all their albums, very good indeed!

Watching Wimbledon with headphones on as my wife doesn’t want this on the Sonos Move and also doesn’t like hearing it through the open backed headphones.

That truly is a terrible album cover and I’m sure it puts a lot of people off.
But it’s a fantastic record and I really like it.
Moonspell I mean.

Ha ha it put me off the first time I went to play it.
It has also been on in the office Sonos and a few of the girls have walked in and I have received some very strange looks :joy:

I mentioned buying a couple of Veldes albums the other day.
This one is from 2017, and the music is very atmospheric, the singing is not, but it works. It’s quite harsh if you do not like that kind of death metal singing.

The Bitterness album sounds good and added it to Bandcamp wishlist. Very well made atmospheric black metal!

Over the past weeks I listened to various albums of the band Torche. Never heard of them before but they have been around for 15 years or so… Alternative Metal mixed with Stoner-Riffs and sort of punk-ish influences… some reviews mention the term sludge metal ( whatever that is  )… sometimes very mainstream sounding (but that’s not always a bad thing (at least from my point of view)).

The best album so far is this one:

I don’t like any of the albums particularly but overall they have some killer tracks spread over all of their releases… I think I will create my own “Best Of” compilation for those guys…

Anyone here with some thoughts on this band ?

Still going through your list, listened many times some albums so this takes time :slightly_smiling_face: From those that I did not know before, best so far is Gorod but enjoyed others like Spawn of Possession and Xoth!

Now playing one that I am more familiar with, Psycroptic :metal:

Sadly bandcamp streaming is low quality and downloads are not much better, so I downloaded a couple of albums today onto my laptop with a decent pair of headphones and that album really shines

Sharing these two classic heavy metal gems I just discovered.

I am very happy to ‘hear’ that. Psycroptic is indeed awesome!

I have done well today from the daily Tidal playlist. One might argue where in the sub genre’s we place this but the album is good.

Another favourite of mine hailing from the early 90s. Samael’s slow and heavy riffing paired with atmospheric black metal elements is fantastic. Back then this sound was quite innovative. My favourites: “Beyond The Nothingness”, “Macabre Operetta”, “With The Gleam Of The Torches”, “Bestial Devotion” and “…Until The Chaos”.

Later on the band took a musical path which I didn’t really like. So this one stands out for me.
