· Cover art missing on android auto. Every time I enter my car, cover art is missing in roon arc for browsing the library. Oddly it works for the now playing display in android auto. No such problems on other music apps I use such as tidal, SoundCloud, mixcloud, and any other app.
I'm using a Pixel 9 Pro running Android 17.
To fix the problem, I go into the roon arc settings android acreen, force stop it and clear cache, and the cover art works when I restart the app through android auto. So, clearly a Room Arc problem.
As you’ve mentioned, the behavior you’re seeing points to Roon ARC’s Android Auto browsing cache, since the now playing screen is still loading artwork while the library browser is not.
Before we go further, we’ll want to enable diagnostics on your account. The next time the cover art is missing in Android Auto, please note the exact local time, date, and what you were browsing, then let us know here so we can review the diagnostic window around that moment.
In the meantime, please try one more thing if you can: instead of force stopping ARC, just clear ARC’s app cache from Android settings before reconnecting to the car, and see whether the art stays present after a normal vehicle restart. If it disappears again only after a new drive session, that will help us separate a transient Android Auto cache issue from something in ARC itself.
Also, can you confirm whether the missing art happens every time with a cold start of the car, or only after ARC has been running in the background for a while?
Let us know what you find, and we’ll take it from there.
I opened up roon arc just now and covers appeared fine. I then thought to myself that it usually happens when I use arc the second time of the day so i turned off my car and started over. Covers were showing for the first fold of scrolling but missing for any other screen below the initial one. They’re missing on every single page: albums, playlists, artists, genres.
It definitely comes and goes but I would say the overall majority of times cover art is missing.
Thanks for the detailed follow-ups, the “below the fold” behavior is a really useful clue.
What you’re describing (artwork loading for the first screenful but missing everywhere you scroll past it, across albums, playlists, artists, and genres) points to ARC’s on-demand image loading failing to fetch art for items as they scroll into view, rather than a full cache wipe. That lines up with why the now-playing screen still works, it only needs the one image.
A couple of quick things that will help us narrow it down:
When the art is missing below the fold, does it ever fill in if you sit on that screen for a few seconds, or does it stay blank until you clear the cache?
Does it correlate with signal quality in the car, e.g. worse in areas with weaker cellular coverage, or consistent regardless of location?
We’re having issues attempting to enable diagnostic mode for your Arc device, but we’ll keep trying in the meantime.
Can you please let us know the exact local time + date + artist/album when this issue next occurs? We’ll enable diagnostics for your Nucleus; perhaps there are some clues in the Server logging that can assist us in getting to the bottom of this issue.
Thanks for the timestamp confirmation. We enabled diagnostics, but your RoonServer logs are filled with API requests that are overwriting any possible signs of issues: Trace: [roonapi] [apiclient 192.168.50.10:51998] COMPLETE Success . Are you able to temporarily disable this api endpoint and reproduce the issue, and let us know the exact local time + date and artist/album affected? Without the artist/album as well, it is much more difficult to review the logging. Let us know, thanks!
