It is exactly the same.
One would think, but this manual is written in such a way that the Tambaqui can\does make a distinction on being able to accept DoP.
I’m sorry, John, I stand corrected. You are right, there is no support via AES/EBU. I have duplicate copies of an artist both in DSD and via Qobuz in high res and believed I was listening to the local file presuming (incorrectly) it was DSD. In fact it was a Qubuz FLAC file. Sorry about that!
It seems this is a discrete DAC, so it’s possible they don’t have logic to detect DoP on all inputs. But then again, all inputs should send data to the same D/A module, so maybe they just didn’t want to document DSD64-only support on inputs limited to 192/24. Worth trying.
Easy to test and I will when I get home later tonight!
Recently, I tried the Matrix NT1 connected via I2S to the Tambaqui; the sound is very precise and resolute. In comparison, the Aries S1 connected via USB adds a touch of warmth and beauty.
Out of interest, what do you mean by “heavy lifting”? My understanding of how this works is that a DAC receives the music file as a stream of digital data. I’m struggling to see how bit-perfect data from a streamer will differ from bit-perfect data from a server.

You are correct, there is no difference. He’s mashing up ChatGPT parroting of vendor talking points (still against forum rules, BTW) with unrelated interconnect scenarios. Per others’ comments above, use USB rather than coax/optical/I2S or, for the Tambaqui, use ethernet since it acts like an endpoint and thereby gets ethernet’s galvanic isolation. In any case, the bits arriving at the device will be uncorrupted and without any sound quality other than what the musicians and engineers intended.
When you start with the wrong premise, you’re likely to arrive at the wrong conclusion.
Also, you were instructed multiple times to stop channeling ChatGPT in this forum. It’s not your friend in terms of expert matters anyway.
Sorry; I visit this forum so rarely I suppose I don’t understand the workings of this forum well enough to use it properly. I thought I was responding to a direct message rather than a forum community post.
I deleted my post and you won’t hear from me again on this or any other subject going forward.
All the best and sorry if I “broke” and rules.
Cheers
You’ve tried that one before.
Thanks! Are you able to test the NT-1 using USB and compare it to the I2S and also to the Aries (via USB)?
For clarity, using generative AI in the forum is prohibited, and this is not the first time you used it, or learned about the Community Guidelines.

I don’t know what you want from me. I have already apologized, and I take accountability for not having updated myself with respect to the rules of this community forum.
I wish you would at this point simply drop the subject and leave me alone since I have acknowledge my transgression. You don’t have to worry about me breaking the rules because I won’t be posting further on the Roon community forums.
How many times must one apologize for having inadvertently broken a rule because I simply lacked the time to read an update myself with respect to what is a fairly new phenomenon meaning AI.
I promise you will not hear from me again.
Thanks!
Tambaqui on ethernet was good for almost a year then in ending of 2024 to beginning of 2025 I lost my ethernet ability. I got it back for a month after I went straight to the router with both my mac and tambaqui and then I lost it again. I sent the tambaqui to mfg techs and it checked out good but the replaced a component in the unit. I got it back and it worked for around a week or two. Well I am now using my Mac to send to tambaqui dac’s usb port. The equipment that I used to resolve this is Mac2/ Mac4/ Firewalla Gold SE/ eero w/3 different switches. I look at the problem once in a while maybe an update might cure my problem.
Hi Craing,
Hi, I’ve never had any problems with Tambaqui in Ethernet mode. The only obvious precaution is to select the network input, otherwise the service is not available.
Maybe a registration problem on the network, in this case you could try checking the configuration, perhaps assigning a static IP address.
Did you also try without this?
What is I2S HDMI pin configuration are you using between the Tambaqui and the Matrix NT1
A lot of time rebooting to factory settings, sending unit back to the Netherlands. It was quite a learning experience to try and revive a function which I had for a year then flickered on and off. Running Roon on a MacMini M4 and outputting to Tambaqui USB sounds excellent and should serve my future plans well. Ok I may have to wait another 3 weeks for my BACCH4mac Audiophile to arrive.
