I have looked at the related topics and still feel hopelessly lost. My system is:
Desktop with Windows 10, Roon installed as core (lifetime subscription), and Android tablet used as controller.
Music files ( some hundreds of albums) stored on a Bluesound Vault 2
I have also used this system for streaming Qobuz and Tidal.
All feeds a Boulder pre=amp and power amp.
All was fine though I have never really understood or used Roon’s many features.
I now have a Lenovo laptop with Windows 10 and want to use that as the core device. I thought I understood the instructions but it really is all too much for me. I have installed Roon on the laptop, and de-authorised the desktop version.
BUT: instead of the hundreds of albums on my Vault 2, the laptop and tablet show only 32 albums. If I go to the Bluesound controller on the tablet or laptop, all of my albums stored on the Vault are immediately visible and will play.
PLEASE in very simple terms, how can I make Roon “see” the library on my Vault storage? I am beginning to regret investing in Roon. It’s just too complicated and the instructions are way beyond me.
And the help seems to rely on “community” - all excellent people no doubt - rather than having Roon people readily accessible.
Thanks for contacting support, I’d be happy to assist here. All of our support threads are monitored by support staff and we keep an eye on issues that pop up, but the community is a great way to receive some feedback before cases reach our queue .
As @Derek_Wyman mentioned, you would want to add your Vault under Roon Settings -> Storage -> Add Folder. Here, you would want to select your Vault 2 from the sidebar and then press “Select This Folder” after you have navigated to the correct Music storage location. This guide outlines the process needed to get this set up and working.
If you are unable to see your Vault2 in the sidebar, the you can press “Add Network Share” to manually specify the IP address for your Vault2. To figure out the IP address of your Vault, you can usually use your Router’s DHCP listing and then connect using SMB – As in this window:
I would post smb://192.168.1.102 as the Network Share Location if the Vault2 was using that IP address. Another thing of note if you go down the IP address route, you will want to make sure that your Vault2 IP address does not change by specifying it as a Reserved IP in your router configuration.
I hope that this information is comprehensive enough, but if you have any other questions, don’t hesitate to ask!
Derek
Thanks very much for your reassuring and helpful response. I’ll work my way through your suggested steps this morning.
Sorry that my plea for help took the form of pathetic bleating. Like many “senior” music lovers I’m used to putting discs in or on a machine knowing that they will play and that they will always be where you put them and will contain exactly the same music each time you get them out. And I can understand what a CD player does, how to connect amps to speakers, etc without worrying any further about what is where and any setting-up. Maybe I’m spoilt but I do recall seeing pleas for more simplicity in the Roon guidance. Oh well…
