Description Of Issue

I’m thinking of having some of my 5.1 surround sound SACDs and blu ray audio discs ripped to the external hard drive (Samsung SSD 1T) used to store my music that is connected to the Nucleus. Is the Nucleus/Roon software capable of recognizing and playing the music in 5.1 surround, i.e. sending the 5.1 signal through HDMI to the Anthem?

Yes. https://kb.roonlabs.com/Multichannel

Just be sure to convert your DSD ISOs to DSF MCH format. You can use this product to do so rather easily. https://www.sonore.us/iso2dsd.html JCR

Geoff and Jeff,

Thank you both for your extremely prompt responses. I changed the channel Layout to 5.1 so I can hear surround sound from the Downloaded SAC. However, having done this, if I want to play a two channel regular downloaded CD through this device, will I need to go back into settings and revert to the 2.0 layout? Or will Roon automatically do that for me?

Roon will do this automatically - it will send both 2.0 and 5.1 material as appropriate for the source. Leave the setting in device setup at the multichannel setting appropriate for your hardware (e.g. it is set at 7.1 for my Denon 3808 AVR, which has 7.1 channels)
