There have been lots of feature requests for multichannel audio support (including from me).
What are the current possibilities for the hardware implementation of this? Are there multichannel network audio endpoints out there? Or multichannel devices which accept multichannel USB in?
There are three multichannel DACs on the market (USB and/or ethernet) and multiple AVRs/AVPs that will accept MCH via HDMI. Also, the exaSound PlayPoint will be an endpoint and it will run the mch e28 DAC.
