Multichannel Qobuz no sound

Try to stream Qobuz multichannel via NUC as an endpoint to a Onkyo RZ740.

Onkyo reports correct signal path, but no sound at all. Roon shows correct progress bar and all.
What gives?

Added information:
I run NUC as an endpoint with Roon server. Core is a Synology 720+ with maximum memory of 16GB and 2 Cache SSD. Works very well with convoltion filters and other DSP heavy lifting.
Watched the rRoon status bar a little closer and noticed, that it stops and restarts until the app crashes and the endpoint disappears.
It should be possible to play a Qobuz 5.1 stream through this set uo.

Do you have a local 5.1 MCH track that you can use as a test to play to the same endpoint?

I downloaded FLAC 5.1 and 7.1 tracks like this and they play without a problem.

Might be worth trying a 48kHz 16bit 6/8ch album from Qobuz if you have one.

Can you post screenshots of the Roon audio settings used on the endpoint (including the Advanced settings section)? Thanks.

Now I get `too many failures. Stopping playback ’ for any file type

it appears that Roon fails to initialize the Onkyo HDMI input. When I start Roon without playing anything before through Onkyo HDM input, the Onkyo reports’’analog input, no signal’’. When I start playing any mediaplayer via HDMI, HDMI port initializes and reports correct stream data. If I then switch to Roon, HDMI via Roon plays multichannel without a problem.

Can you clarify something? I don’t think you are using ROCK on this NUC; are you running another OS?

I ask because I’m seeing a completely different set of settings for the HDMI audio device on my ROCK NUC that is connected to a Denon AVR.

This is Win64 latest version running Roon server on the endpoint

Hmm, it still seems a little odd for the Advanced settings section. For example, here’s what I see on a WASAPI audio channel on my Windows 11 PC in the advanced settings:

Very different from yours. Can you try enabling that “Work around devices that misreport capabilities” setting and see what effect that has?

Tried that as well. What puzzles me is that the channel layout is missing on my setting page.

I think it is definitely something incorrect about your setup. I’ve just tested a 5.1 album from Qobuz here and it plays to my Denon AVR without problems.

I will reset the Onkyo 730 as first step and see what if anything changes. Maybe Onkyo HDMI interface does not report its capabilities correctly.

Well, that didn’t work. Switched to the Thunderbird port wit a HDMI converter, same issue. Used an iPad as endpoint and connected it via HDMI converter to the Onkyo. No issues with stereo, multichannel is not supported. Problem is now not only with MC streams but with everything else. Consider me puzzled. Tend to believe that my NUC10 is the culprit somehow.

What is the NUC hardware model that you are using?

Last thought - download and install the Intel Driver & Support Assistant (assuming that you are using an Intel NUC) and see if that fixes the issue…

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/detect.html

NUC 8BEH with Intel(R) Core™ i5-8259U CPU @ 2.30GHz 2.30 GHz

Latest Win64, Intel update tool in use and up to date. Reinstalled Intel HDMI firmware.

Spec wise overkill for running a Roon server endpoint.

Should be fine. I’m out of ideas here - but the fact that Roon is not displaying the usual device setup screens for the HDMI connection is very curious. I suspect you’re going to have to wait until @support can pull some logs from your Core to see if that will shed some light on the issue.
