Screen mirroring stops the music

Hello there

The form didn’t work properly for this issue.

I use an iPad Pro, an Apple TV and a Mac mini. Maci mini has Roon. When I screen mirror from iPad to Apple TV, the music pauses in Roon.

Everytime I go to the Roon app, the pop up appears at the top of the screen:

And Apple TV is not enabled:

Hello @Gigatoaster ,

Thanks for reaching out with your report. The mirroring option looks like it is coming from iOS itself. Are you able to reproduce this behavior on other apps, such as the native TIDAL or Qobuz app? When you are able to reproduce it in Roon, can you note the exact local time + date + track it occurs on so that we can look over your diagnostics? Thanks!

I can’t reproduce with Qobuz native app, only Roon does it.

Listening now but the pop up is not appearing, we were watching a movie on the Apple TV, though. But when mirroring to Apple TV, music stopped.

I also selected never for Automatically AirPlay in the iPad settings, same issue appeared.

Hi @Gigatoaster,

Does this happen no matter the endpoint/zone you have selected? And, if you screen mirror from a different device (not the iPad) does the same issue occur?

As a simple first step in troubleshooting, try restarting your router and devices to clear up any network latency that might interrupt playback.

We’ve requested a fresh diagnostic report from your iPad as well - could you bring it back online and reproduce the issue and share the track name? Thank you!

Disregard disregard

I restarted my router and the Mac mini. The problem also occurs when screen mirroring from iPhone.

Hi @Gigatoaster,
Do you happen to remember the approxiamte time of your last attempt to screen mirror or what song was playing? That would help us to locate the event in logs.

Hi @daniel

I tried again just now and it happened at 9:58 to 10am CET. This time, no pop up but t he music stops when screen mirroring iPad on Apple TV

Hi @Gigatoaster ,

Does this behavior only happen when you play to the Rotel, or does it happen when you play to other zones? I was able to find the attempt in logging, but it is inconclusive as there is a lot of other Roon activity during that time. If you can share another timestamp + the track + track current progress (occurred after playing for X minutes Y seconds), this can help us narrow this down further. Thanks!

I use only one zone, @noris.

I did another attempt:

  • Time: 11:51 to 11:53am CET
  • Track: Loop & Tings
  • Track progress: 2:03 / 2:37

Music stopped at 2:03, just when I started screen mirroring from iPad Pro to Apple TV.

Hey @Gigatoaster,

Thanks for the fresh timestamp! From logs, we can see playback was paused automatically due to a system-level change: a CoreAudio device (your Panasonic TV) was removed and re-added. This triggered a reconfiguration of the Mac’s CoreAudio stack, which caused a temporary disruption to USB audio playback to your Rotel A14 MKII, ultimately leading Roon to suspend the audio stream.

Do you have exclusive mode enabled for the zone when this issue occurs? When you enable Exclusive Mode for an endpoint in Roon (like your Rotel A14 MKII), Roon takes full control of the audio device and bypasses macOS’s system mixer and audio event handling. This isolates the audio stream from most system-level disruptions — like a TV connecting/disconnecting.

Let me know if this helps!
