All music tracks plays for a short time before moving to the next so unable to listen to a complete track also keep getting error message saying too many failures stopping playback
Describe your network setup
Roon rock server is connected directly hard wire to my router my project streamer is also connected to my router and my streamer to my dac.when new tracks begins it start playing for about a minute then move on to the next track and so and so also I keep getting error message saying too many failures stopping playback!
Hi @Noel_Arthurs,
Thanks for reaching out to us to ask about this issue.
I think the next step here is to enable some diagnostics on your account so our technical staff can get some more insight into what’s going on here.
However, before I enable this feature, I’d like to ask for your help ensuring we gather the right information.
First, can you please reproduce the issue once more and note the time at which the error occurs. Then respond here with that time, and I’ll make sure we review the diagnostics related to that timestamp.
When streaming music tracks appear to start not from the beginning and only last for a minute or one and half minute then it goes straight into the next track and this continues endlessly making it impossible for any listening also error message flashes stating too many failures! At best this started in and around Friday 28 March to Sunday 30 March and more likely late evening and night time!
I can play music from tidal (high quality) also music from external attachment hard drive except Roon! When I am in Roon and press play I get loud crackling noise forcing me to turn down volume not want to cause any danger to my speakers! Another observation is that when tracks are being played whilst I am not getting any sound I can see where the ribbon denote playing is taking place yet no sound and as for the ribbon it continually goes backward and forward rapidly. I have checked all my connection from my Router into my roon rock server also from router to my project streamer plus rebooting many times and further this deinstall/reinstall roon yet no luck. Having done as much as I can it would appear that the problem could very be roon steaming.
Barring hardware problems in the analog realm, audible artifacts while streaming from Roon usually indicate either a Signal Path problem or digital corruption. We can see in diagnostics that the S2 is configured to accept Tidal files in a variety of formats via Roon Ready, but two things occur that prevent it from actually playing:
First, the download from Tidal fails. The bandwidth available to Roon fluctuates wildly, dropping from 0 to the full available throughput of the connection. This effectively means the connection is going in and out, and Roon struggles to download the file to the buffer. During this process, packets are going missing that should have eventually reached the S2.
The S2 itself is not able to buffer content from RoonServer. It’s unclear why the buffer fails, but it’s likely related to the download interference we’ve observed in diagnostics in part 1 above.
Taken together, Roon appears to be struggling to download and transport audio content from Tidal due to severe network interference. You’ve mentioned that you don’t have any WiFi serving RoonServer or your endpoint, only ethernet, so we have to assume this interference is an inadvertent effect of network security or network management software.
Please share the full network topology involved in your setup - if there are any access points, second routers, managed switches, etc., please list those here, along with the model.
In your router settings page, ensure any settings related to QoS are disabled, and settings related to multicast forwarding are turned on.
Do you have any anti-virus software or third-party firewalls installed on this network?
Please also share a screenshot of the Signal Path in the configuration in which you experience pops and/or speaker blasts.
Thankfully I have been able to sort out all the net work problem so I can now get Roon but the sound is only coming from my tablet instead from my audio system. I have had this problem in the past and was able to fixed it but now I can’t remember what to do any advise?
Regards
Noel
Thanks for your responses and you will be pleased to know that all my problems have been solved. My internet provider here in the UK is Talk Talk. Normally with issues accessing the internet one would use the the pull-up card on the back of the router which provides user name and password. However, behind the pull-up card there is another username and password which is on the back of the router itself! As I recalled the user name is always admin all in lower cases but the password which is completely different from your usual password and this is on the back of the router itself. You can find this once you pull-up out the usual card it’s behind the card on the router itself. The printing is so small I had to use my phone camara to take snapshot so I could enlarge it to enter the password which is in upper cases! Once I have put in user name admin and password in uppercases then it brings me to Talk Talk Wi Fi Hub then click connect then everything is connected and now I am enjoying Roon for the last three days with no problem!
Kind regards
