Mute functionality issue with Bluesound Pulse M stereo pair in Roon (ref#F8G1XA)

Hi! What’s not quite right with Roon?

· Hello

I have multiple Bluesound end-points, all working flawlessly with the exception of a Bluesound Pulse M stereo pair (configured as a stereo pair in Bluesound setup). The mute function works fine when operating within the Bluesound environment. However, once in Roon, the muting function only mutes the right Pulse M and not the left Pulse M. I saw that this issue had been previously reported with regard to Bluesound Pulse Flex units, but I don’t see where a solution was provided — other than referring them to Bluesound. Given that it works in properly in Bluesound and not in Roon, I’m assuming it’s a Roon issue (please correct me if I’m wrong!).

Much appreciated for any support you may be able to provide — thank you!!

Hello @Kev

Thank you for the detailed report. I understand why it seems like a Roon issue since it works within the BluOS app, but the technical reality of how stereo pairs work in Roon points to this being a firmware issue on the device side.

Here is exactly what is happening: When you configure a stereo pair inside the Bluesound app, the Bluesound firmware presents that pair to Roon as a single audio endpoint. Roon has no visibility into the individual “Left” or “Right” speakers—we simply see one device named “Pulse M Pair”.

When you click mute in Roon, we send a single “Mute” command to that combined endpoint. It is then entirely the responsibility of the Bluesound firmware (specifically on the primary speaker of the pair) to receive that command and synchronize it across both units.

Since the command is successfully muting the Right speaker, we know Roon is sending the signal correctly. The fact that the Left speaker ignores it indicates that the inter-speaker communication handling the Roon API command is failing within the device’s firmware.

We recommend reaching out to Bluesound Support directly with this information. They need to investigate why their Roon Ready implementation for the Pulse M stereo pair is not correctly distributing the mute command to the secondary speaker.
