My signal path with JBL AUTHENTICS 300

Hi Jamie
Yes i have followed your instructions , rebooted Roon and nade sure the software and the app is up to date. They both say they are.

Still the same. At the bottom of your screen you have Roon ready. My screen is the same as yours just without the Roon ready at the bottom

It does sound very very good. The bass is something else and for my office listening its what i wanted…so I really hope I dont have to return it.

Thank you both for checking and getting back to me. I’ll check with our certification lead for next steps. We’ll get it sorted out. My apologies for your troubles.

I’ve also contacted JBL ……but it’s a pretty slow process

Tidal connect works so it may be kept anyway , but roon was the reason I bought it so,fingers crossed

My only criticism is that without Roon the volume is hard to get right …….like big steps in volume using the app

I do have two JBL 300 on the audio page.
I doubt this is what is causing the issues but thought I would share this.

Obviously I have tried both and both offer AirPlay only

Hey @Womaz and @Stephen_Blatherwick, I just wanted to send a quick note to let you know we’re still investigating the problem. Thank you for your patience while we get this figured out.

Hi Jamie I am not sure if you are aware but I am in conversation with JBL support too.

Just thinking it’s a great little unit , but would I even notice a difference when using RAAT and AirPlay ?

I bought it because it was roon ready , but I really like the unit.
I would prefer to use the RAAT protocol, but would I hear a difference in this litte unit

I ask as I have a decision to make whether to keep it or not.

I doubt RAAT will make any difference at all.

Until this issue is ironed out I’m using the Chromecast route as it allows for higher definition 96/24 as opposed to Airplay which is limited to 44/16. Whether the difference is noticeable on a speaker like this is debatable but I like to go for the best available.
I have a few WiiM Pros as endpoints and these are Chromecast equipped as well, so grouping is very easy via the Google Home app and then enabling in Roon.

Most likely the sound difference will be zero, but it’s not the only consideration. The other one is whether you want to use it in a grouped zone together with other RAAT devices.

I’d say that the biggest difference between AirPlay and RAAT on the Authentics 300 is that AirPlay’s volume increments are much greater. RAAT provides single-stepped volume, which makes it much easier to dial in a comfortable listening level. As such that’s how I prefer to stream to it.

On to more important news, I wanted to share an update on the JBL Authentics 300. The Authentics 300 is certified, but the firmware with Roon Ready integration hasn’t been released yet, which is why it’s not displaying as a Roon Ready device on the audio page.

The Authentics 500 I’m using is a test unit running beta firmware that allows RAAT streaming. I apologize for the misunderstanding and for any frustration or inconvenience it has caused you, @Womaz and @Stephen_Blatherwick.

I’ve been told that the firmware update is on the way, but I don’t have a specific release date. Thank you, gents, for your patience during the wait. If I hear anything more I’ll share the details with you here.

Meanwhile I’ve just bought an Authentics 300 since it may support Roon RAAT in the forseable future, so I can extend my indoor RAAT zone (Naim Mu-So 2) with this.
This is a great speaker to carry around the house, and it does not mind to fancy a small party.
Thank you for the information on the (hopefully) upcoming support.
(Can’t be longer than Hegel H590 RAAT support which took years.)

According the 300’s Software release notes, the latest software version (24.20.21.50.00) does add Roon Readiness. However, my 300 is still running the prior version and does not OTA update when I leave it on.
The latest version is described as having a “release date” of May 23, 2024. It also includes support for “Spotify HiFi”, so maybe JBL is waiting for that be be a real thing?

My 300 has now updated to Roon Ready. A long wait but definitely worth it.

My 300 also became Roon Ready the last time I fired it up a week ago. I was alerted to it when the JBL One software offered me a free Roon trial

I recently bought an authentics 300, updated the latest firmware and connected to roon, but during playback I see that the audio path is modified, obviously I do not have any filters active

It’s quite possible that the device always uses a 48k sample rate. That’s not uncommon.

The difference with roon is that it tells you!

Hope another user can confirm.

Pretty much all my JBL only support 48/24 anything else is downsampled. Hires is pointless on devices like this really as your not going to pick up the differences.
