Mytek Brooklyn Bridge ll with Roon…is it ever shipping?

Btw is your unit 64GB or 4TB? We can read on Mytek webpage that “from now on Mytek will offer only one model with 4TB of internal storage”. I wonder what’s the reason and personally I am not in favour to pay more for 4TB (for now I 100% stream online).

Mine is 4TB, but that is how I ordered it back in March

Have you tried your Rega P8 yet @Ralphyman? Hopefully the hum has gone?

Seems MC compatibility has gone altogether… :frowning:

MC cartridges are not supported anymore… the setting icon next to the input just allows to change the volume trim…. Bummer

Hi Ralphyman,

Did you have the original BB? In the manual for the original BB there is a way of selecting MC cartridge.

This is what the manual says

9.2.15 Analog Input
(Analog Input Mode) - A pair of unbalanced analog inputs can be selected in addition to all available
digital inputs. As with other inputs, it can be routed via the analog stepped attenuator to both main
outputs and headphones. One of three modes can be selected:
• LINE - line level input
• P MM - phono premap, for Moving Magnet cartridges
• P MC – phono preamp, for Moving Coil cartridges

I perform this on my BB (mark 1 version) by selecting MC in the menu as per pic below.

If the method of doing this is no longer possible for BB 2 this unfortunately will not help you!

Sorry if you already know all of the above :grinning:

Edit Just read the blurb on Myteks website for the BB 2 and noticed the following

  • ANALOG PREAMP INPUTSLine level input (10k input impedance) or Phono M/M, M/C input, relay controlled. All analog signal path to output.

I received my BBII upgrade yesterday, 20 months after paying for it. I had numerous telephone calls with Michal and numerous emails sent. I finally sent an email demanding a refund, and the next day received an email with a Fed-ex tracking number, and the unit arrived from Lodz, Poland, 9 days later.

I had requested a 4 Tb unit, but I received a 2 Tb unit. At this point, I’m not going to complain about the storage, I’m just glad it’s finally here. Haven’t had time to delve into it, but the unit powered up and played headphone music through Bluetooth connection with no problem.

Interestingly, I have not received a packing slip or other instructions on how to return the old BB, which I understood to be part of the upgrade deal.

Notwithstanding Mytek’s unfortunate falling out with HEM and the manufacturing challenges presented by the pandemic, I’ve been unhappy with the customer service I’ve received since purchasing the BBii so long ago. I have felt kept in the dark, lied to about shipments, ignored following inquisitional emails, and generally betrayed. The failure to come through with the 4 Tb memory is just icing on the cake.

FWIW, for those of you still waiting, the number to call for Mytek help is 347-384-2687, and is most often answered in the afternoon (EST) by Michal himself, about 25% of the times I called. My email correspondence happened with mehow@mytek.audio.

Congrats! I’m afraid I have yet to receive mine. Otherwise, our experience has been identical.

Received my unit yesterday from headamp.com. First impressions were not great no instruction or getting started guide in the box and the manual online is borderline useless. Also I did not receive the apple remote that I thought came with the unit (can others chime in if they got the remote or not), not having a remote makes using the unit for sources other than Roon a real chore.

Out of the box the front touch screen was not working I had to take the lid off and reseat the ribbon cable to the front panel to get the touch screen working. Not a great start!

Setup was a matter of trial and error as a Roon user with my current core running on an aging (and failing) NUC in my home server rack I had to move all my music from the old core to the Brooklyn Bridge II. You can access the BBII storage as a network share but windows asks for a password and nothing is documented about a password or accessing the storage. I ended up using mytek for username and password and could access the drive. Transferring the files was deathly slow even over my 2.5Gb lan so I copied the 700GB of music from the NUC onto a USB drive and then attached that to the back of the BBII. You can then copy from the external storage to the internal storage and that is pretty fast.

Swapped my Roon license from the NUC to the BBII and it started doing the audio analysis. This caused the BBII to get really hot as it processed 16K of songs. I pumped the fans up to high on the BBII and told Roon to use all 8 cores to go faster. Unit was hot and loud during this activity but you only have to do this step once so no real concern.

Can anyone tell me what enabling the Mytek BBII extension in Roon does? I was expecting to have better control over the BBII such as changing inputs from within Roon but I don’t see any such thing. Am I missing something? Given the lack of physical remote I expected to be able to control the unit using Roon even when on other inputs.

I ordered an AMP+ at the same time to have the stack and connected a trigger cable between the BBII and the AMP+ but the trigger does not seem to do anything. I tested the trigger in from my RME DAC to the AMP+ and it works so the dip switches are set correctly. I was hoping the BBII would trigger the AMP+ when Roon started playing or it came out of sleep.

Talking of sleep how do you make the BBII go into sleep (low power mode)? It appears to be on all the time with the screen on. I see no options for sleep and pressing the volume knob quickly just mutes and holding it down shuts the whole unit off.

Sound wise it’s fine the DAC is certainly not as good as either my Chord TT2 or Holo audio Spring 3 but for the purpose I need it for (secondary listening area) it works fine. I am not hearing any humming something I was concerned about with essentially a NUC next to the DAC section. Have not tried the phono input yet but did notice it says “Phono MM” when I thought this supported both MM and MC (I use an MC cart) so I’m again a bit disappointed.

Overall, after all the waiting and anticipation plus the price point of the BBII I feel let down. The software feels unfinished, quality control is lacking, documentation no where near comprehensive enough for the device complexity. Looking inside the unit it feels a bit like a science experiment with the way the heat sink is put in place, but cramming that much tech in a small box is also a bit of a marvel.

On the control of the BBII, Mytek is supposed to deploy the web interface this fall… I guess this might slip into Winter…

I was disappointed too seeing only MM for the Phono, I had a loaner earlier this summer and MC was still possible, but the humming was unbearable… Mytek’s reply on FB was that if I could afford a nice TT with a MC cartridge I would surely not be using the BBII as a phono preamp… there is some logic to that, but why put it as a selling point then…?
It is possible that after that, they decided to get rid of the option altogether (without updating the manual or their web site)

On the sound quality I agree with you Ian, it is ok… it gets slightly better after a couple of days, but the sound stage, despite getting a bit larger, still hasn’t got much depth… it is also less musical than my T+A DAC 200…

Like you wrote, a good secondary device for a setup for which you don’t have high expectations…

I would like to share my issue with Mytek and let me feel I am screwed. I have one Manhattan II DAC purchased in Hong Kong have problem ask for service and go through unbelievable slow progress, finally get the RMA no and return my main board of Manhattan II DAC (even I bear the shipment cost because Michal said don’t know why can’t issue the international RMA shipment for me), now I know why!

After a few emails back and forward, Michal promises to ship another main board for me in Sep 2023, I tried send thousand emails to Michal ask for update no surprise just like sending to black hole and i receive nothing until today, Jan 2024, thank you for this topic and let me know I’m not alone and just want my main board back!!!

Hi Chris, we do have now a full time tech support person who answers within 24hrs. You can contact at the email at mytek.audio/support. Have you tried this email? I have looked into this briefly now and passed the case to tech suport they will reach out to you. The board has been tested numerous times and deemed ok. This will be confirmed with you and returned if this is what you request. Regards M

Hi Michal, I tried to send your mentioned support email and which never response as your us office email as well. Anyway, that’s really ridiculous asking customers keep waiting for such as long period for checking and promised to replace the board for me. Below is quoted your reply dated 12th Sep 2023:-

Hi Chris

The board installed in our chassis was playing music non stop for several days and we find nothing wrong with it.

I’m not sure if this was tested properly by you or the dealer in our opinion there is no problem with this board unless is intermittent and it just happens to work here but didn’t work with you.

This is possible but also highly unlikely.

We think it’s the equipment following the Manhattan that was distorting, not the Manhattan itself.

The only thing I can think of is to replace this board with another same board so you get something else you had.

Please let me know if you want me to do this.

Thanks, Michal

Hi Michal,
I wish it were true. Unfortunately, I haven’t received any news from you since Friday morning (16.2.24). Your homepage is also no longer accessible (https://mytek.audio). Calls to +48 22 869 29 06 are hung up immediately. I placed my order on 14.1 and immediately transferred EUR 4,995. The promised 2-3 weeks delivery time is long gone. The DPD tracking number you sent me was created on 14.2. The goods are being held back by your production company. I ask you to solve this problem immediately, otherwise I will be forced to take legal action. I am very worried that I will not receive any goods for the payment I have already made.

I hope Mytek reacts immediately. I do not want other potential customers to fall into the same trap and am therefore writing this warning. I will delete this post as soon as the matter is resolved.

The Mytek website seems to have issues at the moment. No matter what device or browser I use I am getting security warnings and warnings of potentially being hacked. And all I wanted to do was load a USB driver from their website!

Hi Marco,

Looking now through email correspondence, I feel like we were in touch with you every other day. As for the phone line, there is a dedicated EU support tel nr in english, listed on the website, please use this one. The BB2 product you ordered is being manufactured and continuously shipped. They are trickling out from the factory in Poland at a steady but small rate and are continuously being shipped out to all due orders. I just got back from floridaaudioexpo.com and was made aware of your case today, called the factory and asked them to expedite the shipping that apparently is sitting there since friday after some delay in production. You did receive the package tracking nr, hopefully the package will be moving tmrw. Please bear with us, while we are working on improving flow of orders and dropshipping and working towards ready to ship stock , which is not the case yet. Once the product is no longer backordered with factory but on our shelf ready to ship, shipping will be immediate but getting there will still get good several weeks as we ramp up quite a complicated production. Regards, Michal

To kevin_wynne1: There was some DNS glitch today that caused the site to go down. It has been repaired. For all support inquiries please use mytek.audio/support email or phone line as we do not monitor this forum continuously. Regards Michal
