NAA Software On a Mac

I’ve ordered the Pi 4 for NAA, so to consolidate the steps.

  1. Burn the microSD card using etcher:
https://www.signalyst.eu/bins/naa/images/naa-422-raspberrypi4.7z ← exactly like this? No need to unzip @dabassgoesboomboom

  2. Boot the Pi4 to check install was successful (any image reference @jussi_laako )

  3. Connect any USB port from Pi4 to DAC ( @jussi_laako makes any difference if turn on or off before or after Pi4 ?)

  4. Open HQPlayer on Mac and select Backend NAA and source “HQPlayer-something Pi4 “ right?

  5. And finally to test 256 DSD any settings recommendations for Mac Mini M1 @jussi_laako ?

Many thanks and hope this consolidated post can help others too :pray:t2:

Need to unzip it. Then use Etcher to burn it to microSD card.

Also that is 4.2.2 but there is now 4.2.3 that you should use instead.

Just follow the same address in the link for the “images”

Awesome and thanks for your update!

When it ends up on login prompt after boot up it should be OK.

Best to have DAC on first. But it should’t matter as long as the DAC is turned on before you start HQPlayer.

It should be called “naa:something” yes.

1x=poly-sinc-gauss-long Nx=poly-sinc-gauss-hires-lp

ASDM7ECv2 modulator unless you have something like ESS based DAC chip, in such case use ASDM5ECv2 instead.

Many thanks @jussi_laako, I wanted to check more details:

Regarding my DAC, I guess is ESS base chip so will go for Modulator ASDM5ECv2

For testing 256 what will I change here? SDM Pack: Default DAC bits: Default
64-bits-1

Bit rate (/ Limit) 44.1k x256
64-bits-2 copy

Thats it and the updated 1x=poly-sinc-gauss-long Nx=poly-sinc-gauss-hires-lp

Right?

Yep, make those changes Jussi suggested to try

Let us know how it sounds !

can’t boot the image,

This shows when making flash

Any ideas?

What file did you select to burn the image?

Can you show a screenshot of the file

That looks like you didn’t burn correct image

I tried both version 422. 423

I wrote above when you asked if you burn the .7z:

So it looks like you didn’t unzip

You can use app like The Unarchiver on macOS to unzip it

Yay!!!
testing

Nice! Also see earlier messages I wrote to you about maybe needing to change RPI4’s name - only required if you are using another naa image on your network

HQPLayer won’t work if there are 2 or 20 NAA’s all called ‘naa’

If you only have 1 NAA image running, no need to change name.

Are you running 4.2.3? Curious if your DSD256 now works

Not working :frowning:
1.Can’t leave it on 256, it changes to back PCM on HQPlayer, and no sound
2. Now using 128k no sound, DAC shows 352 MHz no sound either
3. No sound in any setting using NAA
No sound,

Ha need more information. Can’t help with no information.

Show a screenshot of your HQP settings page. All the settings

Current Settings

Click save and it becomes PCM

No sound

My first test @jussi_laako

Does it work with 44.1kx128 DSD?

Then try SDM pack = DoP also

No sound also

DAC shows 352.8 MHkz

There was never a guarantee the RPi4 was going to work. It was more to try in case latest kernel helped. That’s why it was suggested to use something you already have like an Intel laptop for example.

But it looks like Accuphase needs Windows ASIO driver to support DSD. I know another Accuphase owner who had trouble in the past with Linux but that was last year.

Unless Jussi has another idea to try.

Your settings look fine though.

Well, we’ve done the research, and I’ve dropped the towel!
