NAS path...Map as local folder or via smb?

Is there any advantage to using an smb path and connecting to a NAS directory directly in roon vs mapping the network drive in the OS and then pointing to it as a local folder?

I’ve tried this before and had all sorts of problems using an smb path. I ended up using a network drive as a local folder instead and it is flawless.

I have Roon pointing directly to a shared folder on my Synology 1812+ NAS and have had no problems whatsoever - no drops, no stuttering, etc. I tried pointing it to a 2TB drive inside my Roon desktop server and saw no difference in performance. I have everything hard wired, so WiFi performance may be different.
