.NET 10 RoonBridge 2.71 (build 1683) update is compatible to sMS-200

Just wanted to pass on some information regarding a Roon compatibility question, that I received from SOTM’s support today:

Roon had informed its users, that on August 30th, they will update Roon’s Linux system requirements, now mandating glibc 2.27 or later and OpenSSL 1.1.1 or later for Roon Bridge to function correctly.
As far I understand, that directly will affect, how Roon „talks" to the sMS-200 (Ultra / Neo), so I asked SOTM’s support.

SOTM informed me, that the current firmware v0.6.4 on sMS-200 (Ultra / Neo) satisfies these library dependencies: „There is no is issue regarding to your concerns, you can use the unit as it is now."

So there is no reason to refrain from this major Roon bridge update.

A quick note, since the Roon Bridge update has dropped and I installed it on my Roon Rock:
I can confirm, that V 2.71 (build 1683) works with my sMS-200 Ultra Neo.
Btw.: It also works with the LAN streaming input of a Gustard R30 DAC (FW Version V1.2.1 build 229, so not even yet updated to the latest CelMusperOS v5.0)

I was under the impression that ROON Ready devices such as SMS-200 do not use Roon Bridge

You are absolutely right, as I just found out. Roon Bridge does not appear in „About", when my sMS-200 is connected. My fault – I always mistakenly assumed, that it acted as a „LAN streaming BRIDGE" to „translate" between Roon Rock and my DAC. Maybe, I got caught up with the proper/wrong terms – SOtM never corrected that in their answer.

no worries. I just got a new SOtM SMS-200 Ultra Neo and love the sound. Initially I had expected a firmware update would be needed but then discovered the distinction in the ROON Ready vs Roon Bridge implementations. Strange that SOtM didnt point this out themselves.

Great choice, enjoy! Same here - mine also is connected to a 10MHz OCXO clock (as well as my DAC and my LAN switch), and all are powered by a good linear power supply. That all adds quite a bit to the sound quality.

One of the things that drew me to this streamer is the upgrade path available, my own next addition will be a linear power supply. The external clock would have to be down the road for me. That’s an ideal setup you have. Happy listening!
