· None of these are listed. It simply says "TIMEDOUT" or similar.
System or third-party *firewalls *or *antivirus software* can sometimes block RoonServer from reaching ARC.
· Try adding RoonServer and its associated processes to the whitelist of any firewalls or antivirus software you have installed, including the Windows system firewall, if applicable. [You can learn more about firewall exceptions with Roon here.](https://help.roonlabs.com/portal/en/kb/articles/firewall)
Has the status in Roon -> Settings -> ARC changed after adding exceptions in your firewalls and antivirus software for Roon? I don't have any system or third-party firewalls or antivirus software.
Have you successfully located and enabled the UPnP or NAT-PMP settings in your router's web UI?
Thank you for your patience while we’ve had a chance to review your case. The diagnostics you’ve provided suggest that UPnP is not properly configured on your router, and additionally it looks like your ISP might be using both IPv4 and IPv6 addresses. To work around this, you can:
Try to manually open the port in your router’s port forwarding configuration
Make sure the IP/Port matches the Port listed in Roon → Settings → ARC
Check for any VPNs or Firewalls that might be interfering
Check if your modem is in Bridge mode
If you continue to experience difficulties, please tag the support team and include the following information:
Do you have any additional network hardware, like additional routers or managed switches?
Is your Modem configured in Bridge Mode so that it operates only as a modem or do you have the ports forwarded on both?
Is there any way you can try to temporarily turn off IPv6 functionality?
You can try to use a 3rd party integration called Tailscale with your Mac, this bypasses the need for Port Forwarding. You can learn more about it in the below guide:
We wanted to check in since a few days had passed - were you able to configure either port forwarding or Tailscale with the help of the instruction guides above?
Please let us know if we can assist further or clarify any of the networking steps involved.
Thanks for checking in on me. I had little to no success on the router side. It says that i can open port forwarding but it did not work. Also, Arc was working for me and then I had to change my network and separate out my 2.4Ghz vs 5 Ghz networks. Once I did that, I lost ARC.
That said, I believe that I was able to get ARC running via TailScale. That said, help me better understand what I am doing there and if there are any risks with running TailScale. I haven’t tried it out away from the house - just via cell within the home but I imagine that is good enough to prove that it works.
Some internet service providers block port forwarding above the level of your account - this usually takes the form of carrier-grade network address translation (CG-NAT). In these cases, the router settings may still allow you to configure a port forwarding rule, but it simply won’t function.
Tailscale is a secure, Wireguard-based proxy-mesh VPN. It creates a secure connection between your RoonServer and phone, simulating a single subnetwork even when the phone is connected via a cellular connection. From a networking perspective, it’s more secure than port forwarding, but neither presents any risk to your network as long as your router security remains in place and you haven’t erroneously shared your Roon credentials.
