New Core install - music streams but Core not found

Description of Issue

Replaced Nucleus with Grimm MU1 streamer yesterday. Running ethernet from wall plug to the MU1. MU1 to Mola Mola Kula integrated via AES cable.

Immediately was able to stream Qobuz to Iphone and TV soundbar but not thru Kula. Then I simply reidentified the MU1 as the Kula and could stream through the Kula. However, in settings setup the Core can’t be found, though music streaming is still fine. Please note in screen shots that when enabled the Kula is listed, but when disabled the MU1 is listed. Pretty sure this is a simple fix, but I’m lost.

Thanks in advance

Rich

@Rich_Magnani, it appears that your Core is the MU1 if the Kula is connected to it. Can you post a screenshot of Roon->Settings->About? That will show the IP address of the Core and any connected Remotes.

Hi Robert - As requested.

Thanks

Rich

@Rich_Magnani, thank you. This shows that your MU1 is the Core. What settings are you referring to that cannot find the MU1 Core?

Robert - Under setup when I click the “find Core” it searches endlessly and does not find the Core.

Ahhh, I believe I see what is happening. Roon OS devices are either Nucleus/Nucleus Plus or ROCK PCs, and if the MU1 does not run ROCK, it won’t find anything. As your Core already is active on the MU1 and your PC Remote can see it, this should not be an issue as your Core is visibile and on your network.

I believe you should ignore this as Roon seems to be operating correctly based on your previous screenshots.

Sounds reasonable, but this means that I can’t do backups or reinstall the software (if ever needed). I’m not trying to invent a problem, but what recourse do I have later?

Thanks

Rich

Two more questions:

  1. Does the MU1 have any management interface to manage Roon?
  2. On your PC Remote, if you go into Settings → Backups, can you select a backup location for your MU1 Roon Core, especially to an externally attached drive or network drive?

Embedded Roon Core servers sometimes have additional management overlays, but again I am not familiar with the MU1.

Robert

I sorted the streaming issue with the MU1 manufacturer. The odd thing now is the inability under settings setup to find the Core. I logged out from the Mu1 and switched Core to my laptop and the same endless search to find Core. Switched back to Mu1 as Core and it continues to spin and not find the Core. I don’t understand this.

Rich

Sorry but as @Robert_F said earlier, that screen you showed earlier says “Searching for Roon OS Core” - and your MU1 does NOT run Roon OS (Operating System), so it won’t find anything in your network. Roon OS is only used in the Nucleus models and in a ROCK/NUC system.
