New Macbook Air audio devices not appearing in Roon (ref#C47N2J)

What best describes your playback issue?

· My DAC, streamer, or speaker doesn't appear as a Zone in Roon

What type of Zone is affected by this problem?

· *Directly-connected Zones* are affected.

Is your device connected directly to the Roon Server via cable or over the network, or is it chained through another device (such as a streamer, Roon Bridge, or Roon Remote)?

· It is connected through a different device (e.g Rasberry Pi)

Does the device play audio from another source when using the same connection?

· The device has no problems with another audio source

Have you checked that Roon is whitelisted in any firewalls?

· I've checked the firewall and the issue remains

Since you are using a network connection to the device, please ensure that your RoonServer is on the same subnet as the device

· My devices are on a single subnet but is not visible to Roon

Do you have a complex network setup?

· Both the device and RoonServer are connecting to a *single router*

Try to disable any additional networking interfaces on your RoonServer machine.

· I've checked this and the issue remains

· MacBook Air

Describe the issue

New Macbook Air audio devices do not appear in roon

Describe your network setup

ADSL Model -> UniFi router -> Unifi Switch -> NUC over ethernet, WiFi Access Point over ethernet, both from same (and only) switch

To be clear, all existing devices work fine, but my new macbook air isnt showing as a device when running the Roon.app on that device, connected to my NUC. I can connect to the NUC roon server, and play music through other devices, but ‘this computer’ does not show up anywhere in the ‘Audio’ section of the settings pages

Also i have already tried:

  1. restarting NUC
  2. restarting MacBook
  3. adding and readding roon.app to allowed local devices
  4. firewall is disabled

the macbook itself connects to NUC fine, but its audio devices are not present

Hey @callum_rogan,

Thanks for writing in and it’s good to see you on the community again!

What devices are you using specifically that aren’t being properly recognized?

We’re not seeing any traces of your new Macbook Air on your account admin, if you could, please use the directions found here and send over a set of logs to our File Uploader? Once logs have been uploaded, please let us know so that we can check the server for your files, thanks!

For your Macbook Air, what OS are you currently running? We’ve seen reports of audio-device related issues on most of the newer Sequoia updates, although the most recent update - 15.4 seems to have fixed most issues so far. Let me know if you’re either already on 15.4 or would be able to update to the latest version for further testing.

We’ll be on standby for your reply!

hi benjamin, thanks for getting back!

Yes so no devices connected to this new macbook show up at all (inbuilt speakers, headphone output or my USB JDS Labs Element)

The MacBook is connected to the NUC (for the first time today)

The MacBook iso n 15.3.2 - but i cannot update yet, version has not yet been approved by my employer (manages the device)

My employer managed my previous MacBook device that worked just fine, so I dont think its any corporate software.

Hi @callum_rogan,

We’re still not seeing any sign of your MacBook reaching our servers, which suggests something is blocking its connection—most likely the third-party security software installed by your company. These kinds of setups can be tricky to work around, especially when the device is managed by an IT department.

It may be worth getting in touch with them directly to see if you can have them add the below exceptions to their firewalls:
