New NUC install won't boot

True dat. But I felt awful proud of myself that I did it, before I realized it was totally unnecessary. Hacker skillz.

I wonder if one of us (or crowd sourced a bunch of us) could make suggested edits to the ROCK documentation… not sure if there’s any precedent for it, but it’d help a lot I think. Not sure they want to turn it into a wiki, but a bunch of us would, I think, be happy to help on supporting some efforts like this. I would anyhow.

@support come on guys about time the docs were updated with the Bios upgrade not needed and the settings for disabling secure boot.

There are already a number of us in the community who help out with the documentation. The issue is that Roon Labs have recently moved all the documentation to a new help system that was introduced with the new Roon Labs website a couple of months back, and they haven’t yet opened up the new system to us.

And that’s probably because of three things:

  • the processes and procedures for administering the new system have yet to be finalised
  • they’re up to their necks with developing version 1.8
  • once 1.8 is final and released, it will probably mean a major overhaul of the current help portal content.

All I can suggest is patience. I expect the logjam will ease once 1.8 is released - and don’t ask me when that will be. I have absolutely no idea.

The settings for disabling secure boot are in fact hinted at in the current ROCK document. There’s a link to an Intel document that covers the procedure. I agree though that it could be spelled out more clearly in the Help Portal documentation.

Ah, that’s good to know. Glad to hear that Roon are leveraging the community that way, and I certainly appreciate that software changes like this beget interruptions. I like the new site, so that’s good. Onward and upward.

Hi everybody,
I just bought a second hand 5i3RYH NUC just to install Rock on it
Unfortunately, I can’t manage to boot correctly on USB Stick.
When I choose the USB stick, the screen turn black and said that there is no signal anymore.
I tried the USB Stick on another computer and the ROCK installer starts normally. But on the NUC, it’s impossible
I tried to install Ubuntu with a Flashed USB Stick but there is the same problem

Can somebody please help me to find what i messed ?

I followed the installation guide and disables UEFI in the bios as written

Thanks

Check the jumper setting that prevents BIOS Update and Recovery options, see

https://www.manualshelf.com/manual/intel/nuc5i3ryh/pdf-version.html

I was able to update the bios
On the picture, the jumper is not placed like in my computer

@support, I’m contacting you today beacause I need help.
I bought a second hand NUC 5I3RYH, I followed steps in installation guide and I can’t boot on USB Stick correctly, the installation doesn’t start.
Itried to find help in the Roon users group on facebook but unfortunately, I can’t find a solution for now.
I’ve updated and configured my Bios as described but I had missed something, because my flash usb stick doesn’t work on my NUC (but work on another computer, and I tried with 3 different USB Sticks), You can find below a link on a video I have posted on YouTube showing what happened when I’m trying to boot from usb stick

You will find bellow pictures of my bios too.
Can please somebody help me to find why I’m not able to start the installation process on this NUC (which is identified has compatible) ?

Thanks for your help

video of the problem

That’s ok
I solved my problems
It was just the tv which turned off the signal when the Rock installer started
