I will not buy, it’s old technology. No modern nmve ssd, no usb4 support for fast external ssd. Is like buying air, they don’t tell you any real specifications, What processor? What kind of memmory? What is the fan noise? Prefer to get a good computer/laptop. Modern hardware make no noise at all.
If you had looked at the first five posts in this thread, you would have found the following link
Which sums up everything Roon has said about the Titan to date. The Titan has not yet been released and has not yet had a release date announced.
- Aside its putatively superior aesthetics, are there any improvements in performance for the Titan compared to the Nucleus Plus?
No one knows.
- As a current Nucleus Plus owner, would purchasing a “Titan” mean having to start all over again burning CDs and downloading music, or could the files be transferred relatively easily from the Nucleus Plus to the Titan?
You can always transfer your database to a new RoonServer and you would follow the Migrating to a new RoonServer FAQ.
- Presumably the lifetime subscription I just bought would transfer to the new unit. Is that correct?
Yes, you can always move your license between servers.
- For those who have purchased a Nucleus Titan, what do you think? Was the extra expense worth it?
No one has purchased one yet as it is not on sale. Personally, since I build computers, it is not something I’d be interested in for that price.
Just a word of advice. If you don’t know how to move music files off your Nucleus Plus, then you are probably not backing up your music files. Best if you back up your music, if it located only on your Nucleus Plus.
Also (speaking as a Nucleus Plus owner), I doubt if there is any need to consider buying a Titan when it is released. The Nucleus Plus is fine for most people (myself included). It is fast enough for most people (unless they have very large music libraries) and actually looks quite good, even compared to the Titan. I don’t see a reason for “upgrading” unless the Nucleus Plus is somehow not meeting your needs.
Well, it is advertised for sale on the Roon Web site.
So I’d say it’s released.
Don’t think so. It’s certainly advertised - but not yet available for sale. I don’t think it’s yet in the Roon Store - which currently is only offering the Nucleus One on pre-order.
Hmm.
You are correct in assuming that I don’t know how to move music files off my Nucleus Plus, and also that I am not backing up my music files. I’ll try to look up how to do both of those things, but I reserve the right (or at least request the priviledge) of still asking (you and/or the community in general) how to do both of those things.
This is EXTREMELY helpful. The Nucleus Plus is not failing to meet my needs. It’s no doubt obvious from the (probably annoyingly) rudimentary nature of my questions that I just got the thing a relatively short while ago and am still learning how to use it. I noticed some post(s) referring to potential difficulty in finding replacement parts for when the Nucleus Plus wears out, but hopefully that won’t happen any time soon.
Somehow I feel that if you sent Roon a check for $3700, they’d send you one.
In any case, it’s “released” – unleashed on the world!
I don’t see a “Buy” button. Once it becomes available I will be purchasing one.
With the announcement of these new devices, Roon seem to have better access to the Harman marketing department than they do the production/manufacturing department.
The specifications for the Titan state library capacity is up to 10,000 albums, 100,000 tracks. My library is over 47,000 albums, 748,000 tracks. (I currently use a NUC8 with 128GB RAM & 256GB SSD plus NAS) Does anyone know if there are plans for a SuperTitan to handle large libraries?
I would be building my own desktop CPU based computer to handle that library.
Suppose there were. How many units do you think they could sell?
Check again… ![]()
LIBRARY CAPACITY
Over 10,000 albums (100,000 tracks)
Yes, my oversight, thank you!
The question now is how to determine just how far over?
Assume one.
Wouldn’t you be better off with a more modern nuc then? I am guessing you are running Roon Rock OS and have maxed out RAM?
I’m not really looking to upgrade the NUC/Rock server but will need to replace it at some point. It has been running 24/7 for 4.5 years with the original m.2 drive for os/database. I’ve increased the internal storage to 4tb and ram to 32gb but that’s it. I’m hoping whatever I replace it with will have the performance to overcome the issue mentioned.
If you have money to spend look at a synology fs3600
i run the windows version of roon under vmware on the fs3600 assigned 4cores and 32 gb ram and it is super fast and if it becomes slow i can assign more cores and ram. (the music is not stored under windows but in the default music folder) the virtual switch has 2 bond 10Gb ethernet ports and for the other stuff on the Nas i use 2 bond 25Gb ports (expansion card) and all are connected thru an aggregation switch that runs with fiber thru my other switches in my home
While super cool, this solution isn’t quite a turnkey appliance like a Nucleus.
No, but if you have a large collection like RobertS with probably many hours work to get al the music tagged and sorted, it could good be an option.
don’t get me wrong i like the new Nuculeus and the idea of a turnkey appliance but it isn’t. you still need a place to store your music and if you put a ssd inside you need to configure a back-up. because with one ssd you have the risk to lose you music. and if there is an ssd inside the nucleus and it’s a samsung it will be probably a QVO and that are not the greatest ssd’s from Samsung, i owned a dozen of them but the all died within 2 a 3 years. (i assume QVO because of the 8Tb size)
